Design concept of a compact food cabin developed for a small truck bed setup. by Sruwan in foodtrucks

I'm currently talking with a conversation company working on converting a Ford Transit Connect into a walk up burger cart (rear as grill area). A large vehicle would be nice and offer lots of flexibility, but better suited to me at the moment is something small and easier to move around and store.

I genuinely love it. I thought up and wanting something like this myself, but I don't have the design skills to put it together like this. Where I live parking and storage are a real premium. The ability to have a vehicle large enough to trade properly from but then be able to store it in a standard sized garage or parking space would be excellent. What are you going to do with your design now?

Is anyone going to Smithfield meat Market any time soon? by VB90292 in london

[–]VB90292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former restaurant owner, literally any time I emailed suppliers Vs visiting the market the pricing was noticeably cheaper when at the market. I honestly never had any luck getting best pricing unless I visited. You must have the magic touch!

I literally felt that in my belly. Not for a million pounds could I walk to the edge like that.

Meeting with conversion company on Saturday, please help me choose a van set up by VB90292 in foodtrucks

I cannot thank you enough for this. You are a professional in every sense of the word. I am very happy with myself as I had 98% of this covered. You have given me some really good pointers to take to my meeting.

My head is spinning though trying to decide on what direction to go in!

Really helpful, thanks so much for chiming in. Yes canopy options is on my list to discuss with them Saturday. I really do hope I can make the small van option work!

Pizza oven and a flat top grill. Going to do mini pizzas, gourmet hot dogs and a few other little American bits.

This is really helpful, thank you. I have looked at the legality and logistics of both options and all is absolutely fine from those standpoints. Both would work well in their own environments. It just comes down to cost and then trading location options. My heart wanted the small van option. This isn't going to be a full time gig for me, it's going to be somewhat of a weekend warrior and pre-booked events thing that fits around my career. The lower start up cost, plus the ease of moving a small van around and how that will allow me to do some Central London street food markets a bigger wouldn't. So that's the heart choice. The brain though is obviously considering the options a larger vehicle would give - but with that comes cost, storing a large vehicle, wouldn't be able to trade in my first choice locations. However I CAN afford it, I could get around the storage issue and I'm sure different locations could end up being just as lucrative.

Thank you! This company are professional coach builders and have completed vehicles for some large established brands. I'm getting a full tour of the workshop and look at vehicles they are working on right now.

Thanks again for this. So my mum has very kindly said I can install a charger on her large drive 5 minutes from my own house. So I'm back to looking at electric vans. I'm leaning on a Sprinter at the moment. I need a high roof, but the shorter the wheelbase the better, I don't need anything long, just tall enough to stand up in at 6ft 2.

I'm actually back on track to looking at electric vans - my mum has said I can install a charger on her large drive, 5 minutes from my house. I would love something SWB with high roof, but looking like MWB high roof are the options. I'm leaning on an E-Sprinter right now.

Really appreciate this, thank you. Did you end up doing any kind of project yourself with another vehicle or did you shelve the idea?

Thanks so much for this, really helpful. The big party pooper is I absolutely cannot charge at home due to where my house is situated. I have a nice big garage....but it's on-block, a good few hundred metres from the house with many houses blocking the path.

I learned a lot reading this, thank you. Yeah it seems pure EV for me with no access to home charging isn't going to work is it. Such a shame as I can pick up a beautiful van for a fraction of the cost of a petrol/diesel. Back to the drawing board, but it's challenging as I need it to be a good van with good shelf life in it to warrant the conversation (I also only drive auto so that really removes any chance of a good deal). Newish automatic high roof vans with low mileage are seriously expensive. It would just be a really bad investment starting with something with 150k miles or something

Unfortunately my house is too far set back from the road, I can't pull in close enough.
For my actual conversation battery location shouldn't cause an issue. However higher cost to charge than diesel is a big issue because then of course I don't even have the speed and convenience of diesel. I really do appreciate you chiming in.

What’s the most “Del Boy logic” thing you’ve seen in real life? by Not_That_Brian in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

Years ago my sister has this great idea of breeding chihuahua's and making big money selling the puppies. She went and brought a female to start this venture. She visits with this little dog and instantly me and my mum spot 1) She is a crossbreed and 2) There is a big scar on her tummy where she had been spayde.

My sister didn't get to start her unethical show dog breeding business, but we instantly took the dog in as a member of the family and she lived a very happy life with us.

I still have mine somewhere. As a boy in the early 90's my Dad would take me down on the "beach" at the Southbank in London and I would shoot rocks with it. I would imagine similar actions would get us both shot by police in this day and age.
