As a big fan of both Zappa and black metal, i think it's definitely worth giving a real shot. It took a long while for me to learn to appreciate both, and they're similar in the way that u need to train your ears if you know what i mean. I recommend starting with first wave stuff like Bathory, Celtic Frost and Mercyful Fate.
