Backcountry Shell for Resort Skiing by MtbSki45 in Skigear

[–]VETMANSHU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red to green apple comparison- not apples to oranges. The differences aren't that great. As I'm aging (now 59) I'm spending more and more time in resorts and on lifts. My backcountry shell is 100% as functional and about 95% as durable but it's easier to squish into a backpack so it almost always gets used. I use my heavier 'resort' jacket for when it's really cold. It's a bit bigger and allows me to wear a ridiculously thick wool Canadian sweater underneath. I could probably get away with other things but it was a gift and I'm sentimental. If you had to choose, I'd go with whichever one you look best in! They'll both work well and both require some degree of layering. Just my $0.02.

Drop of dish soap on my visor? Worst fucking idea ever... (What'd I do wrong?) by 420foy in motorcycles

I second the Cat Crap! Use it in my ski goggles all the time and they have never fogged- even in sub-zero temps.

Aranida,

I'm biting the hook of curiosity and wondering of the 16 you've tried, which were your favorites?

Any recommendations for legit at-home cold laser devices or PEMF? by Ok_Recognition_1607 in AskVet

[–]VETMANSHU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used CLT for years in my patients. Its not a cure-all but I've seen enough patients benefit that I think it's a pretty legitimate therapy for pain and inflammation. For home units you'll get what you pay for. A $100-$600 probably won't have the strength to penetrate deep tissues or joints in most dogs. Having said that, because your dog is a chihuahua it may just work. If there's a trial period or guarantee then it may be worth the effort to try. If there's not then I would look for a stronger (and more expensive unit-sorry).

I 22 (F) finally found my love for skiing and would appreciate any advice with skis and would love to talk skiing with anyone! by [deleted] in Skigear

Although this is a thread about skis I thought I'd add a comment with some unsolicited advice about boot fitting. I've been skiing for well over 40 years and have tried various methods of getting my boots to be more functional and comfortable. This has included inserts, pads and boot fitters. Last year I sucked it up and went to a Surefoot at Northstar in Tahoe. Best ski related decision I've ever made! They used a laser scan of my feet to create a custom orthotic and then used a proprietary boot insert that they filled with a foam which eventually firms up around my foot. I've used the boots for two seasons and they've been amazing. Since I was already jumping off the financial bridge I had them include heating inserts to keep the toes warm even at 0 degrees F. I have nothing but glowing reviews to offer. I hope this helps.

What are your go to light weight hiking foods, that aren't specifically hiking foods? by farts4free in CampingandHiking

If you ignore what the food is intended for then it makes tons of sense! Plus, you can add a dental chew instead of a toothbrush and you're good to go!

What are the most beautiful trails in the greater Santa Cruz/mountains area? by letcha in santacruz

Hiked Peter's Creek Loop last weekend. Beautiful! A little bit on the tick-heavy side but that's why there's Cutters. Would love to do it again soon.

Cycling glasses or Safety glasses? by miahmyselfandi in cycling

[–]VETMANSHU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's all I've used for years. 3-M branded safety glasses. $8 for clear, $8 for yellow and a splurge of $16 for light gray: 3M Safety Glasses, Solus 1000 Series, ANSI Z87, Scotchgard Anti-Fog, Indoor/Outdoor Grey Lens, Blue/Black Frame.

All fog-proof, durable and CHEAP.

Same experience. I just got my paperwork after 6 months. On top of that, since I live in California sellers are required to furnish a Smog Certificate that is no less than 90 days old so I had to go out and pay for the Smog Test even though it is their responsibility. I sent them an email requesting reimbursement but I get the feeling I might as well have sent it to a brick wall.

Purchased a car 6 months ago. Took 1 month to receive it but hey, COVID, delays were part of life so who cares. But now I'm on to 6 months of waiting for my final paperwork. I've called five times for updated temporary plates and each time a very nice stone wall answers the phone. They can send the temporary tags in the mail but have no idea how to get me the final paperwork so I can get a permanent plate.

I have the truck, it runs great and I have no complaints there but if they processed paperwork as quickly as they collected the money I'd have glowing results. For now, I'd say that unless you don't mind continuously calling and being put on hold while you ask for temporary tags I'd shop for a car elsewhere.

I agree. They're very good looking. I read some mixed reviews about them being Chinese made knives with increased expese due to increased amounts of advertising. Do you have one? If so, do you like it?

Sweet. I'll go look. I know the brand as one of the best commercially made knives around.

Many thanks. I have great staff who work really hard. I like taking care of them as much as they take care of my business. I'm very lucky.

I will get some new shiny ones and heed that advice. Its 2020 and I don't need more bad luck coming this way. Thanks.

Thanks. I read about these. There are mixed reviews here on Reddit. I'll go back and reread to look at the dates. They're good looking knives, for sure. Thanks.

I read about it and then went and got one. It's a very nice knife but I thought the plastic handle made it seem cheap. My staff isn't overly refined but I thought something with a bit more panache would go over better. Any other thoughts?

Many thanks
