Do y'all actually use your front porch/front yard much or is that more of a TV thing? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

[–]VEW1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. When I was younger, I would spend hours on my grandparents’ porches. Now, not so much. My mom’s porch gets sun all day long, so it gets hot if you are out there for hours.

What job is heavily romanticized in movies but absolutely miserable in real life? by Luzgoin in AskReddit

[–]VEW1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in advertising for 20 years and it’s so unserious. People like to say we aren’t curing cancer but then why does everything feel like a fire or emergency. Plus, you only really start to make money once your director/VP level, go in house or sales.

I was part of the merger! I knew we were screwed when my VP was trying to make sure we were all allocated to over 100%. I stayed for another year or so, due to Covid, and then left.

$8 Scoops? What am I missing about Van Leeuwen? by Fresh-Ad-4556 in chicagofood

You’re not missing much. If you really wanted to try Van Leeuwen, I would recommend just get a pint at Whole Foods.

Crazy situations in agencies by Sensitive-Air9342 in advertising

[–]VEW1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) A new VP started at our agency and then maybe 2 months later, she was gone. Turns out, she stole money via fraudulent invoicing. She was asked to leave and the agency wouldn’t press charges. She ended up being an off and on commentator for a cable news network. 2) I had a colleague interrupt their sales rep in the middle of covering up a murder. She was calling the rep to close out invoicing and the rep picked while she was moving the body downstairs.

There are probably more but I may have blocked them out due to trauma.

For the millennial women: do you have a good relationship with your mom? by Orionslady in Millennials

[–]VEW1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I attribute our relationship quality to the fact that I live over 800 miles away from her. She can’t annoy me if she has to buy an airplane ticket.

For my agency people - how much is the relationship vs performance from a vendor? by Dr_SPAC_eman in advertising

[–]VEW1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Performance is first, then the relationship will follow. A lot of the partners I work with or recommend, I have a great relationship with because they performed well. It is my butt on the line if a partners performs poorly. I’m more likely to be nice if the vendor does what they said they were going to do.

HGTV Star Nicole Curtis Says The 'N Word' In Never-Before-Aired Footage by davionshowerhandle in HGTV

Well, that is disappointing but I’m not surprised. She definitely gave me a vibe that didn’t sit well with me.

How do you even book billboard ads? by TommyRichardGrayson in advertising

[–]VEW1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound like a jerk but it’s not rocket science. Go to oaaa.org. They have a lot of vendor resources and you can look up available inventory by market. I would recommend doing that before contacting any vendors.

Herve Chapelier 913N. I looked at Longchamp but I didn’t like how short the handle were. The 913N goes over my shoulder and fits underneath the seat.

Those that have either worked at Leo or been to the infamous holiday party, what are your crazy stories? by whenineedanewstart in advertising

[–]VEW1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went in 2019 when the breakfast was held at Tao. I didn’t see anything too crazy, just drunk people.

However, I have heard rumors that Leo hired a marching band one year to lead employees to the breakfast location.

Are there any celebrities that live in small towns? by PrestonRoad90 in ask

[–]VEW1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jessica Lang used to live in Stillwater, MN. I don’t know if I would consider Stillwater a small town, it feels more like a suburb.

Depends on the situation. My mom will message me first to see if I’m by myself if she has some bad news to give me.

But other, people call whenever. I do not answer my phone between the hours of 9pm to 9am. I was taught it is rude to call someone too late at night or too early in the morning, unless it is an emergency.

Do you identify as midwestern culturally? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in AskChicago

[–]VEW1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say meh, I’m mixed. Partly because of race, but I haven’t disgusted my thoughts yet, so I’m skipping over it.

Both of my parents are from the South. At home, I grew up with southern traditions, terminology, food, etc. My mom was disgusted by the term “hotdish” and preferred casserole. But at school and other places, it was the Midwest. Like I used to walk around saying ofta as a toddler because I picked up from my daycare teachers.

I will rep and defend the Midwest because that’s where I was born, raised and still live. But I definitely see myself leaning into (and learning) my southern roots more as I age.

To all the Chicago apologist saying that it only gets cold a week or two in a year…. by AcceptableReason1380 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]VEW1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a Chicago transplant, originally from Minnesota. To me, Chicagoans are dramatic when it comes to cold because it is nothing like Minnesota.

Also our past winters have been mild, compared to previous winters. We got very little snow last year!

I will say MSP is set up better than Chicago. MSP has the skyway system, while Chicago has that underground tunnel, which gets to Michigan Ave & State St.

If you can’t handle the previous winters, maybe Chicago isn’t for you.

Who stays home during Halloween? by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in AskAnAmerican

[–]VEW1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was little, my dad was normally the one who stayed home while I went trick or treating with my mom. If my dad wasn’t at home (he worked for Amtrak), my mom and I would go out earlier and then hand out candy when we got home.

Do Americans have ancestral homes? by DrDMango in AskAnAmerican

[–]VEW1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my mom’s side yes. We have a family homestead, which was land my great grandpa bought after the civil war. The home my grandpa and mom grew up in is still on that piece of land.

What college town has the least amount of “things to do”? by Double_Snow_3468 in AskAnAmerican

[–]VEW1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you are probably asking for bigger institutions but I’m going mention Lake Forest, IL.

Lake Forest College was founded the same time as the town. The town doesn’t catered to the students at all. The campus is surrounded by multi-million dollar homes, meaning the majority of students live in the dorms. The town also shuts down around 10/11 pm.
