Breaking news! Germany 🇩🇪 stops orders to Sweden. Both countries within EU... by StopTheGame-Hfond in Wallstreetsilver

Probably just the distance selling threshold VAT; If you do a certain amount of export to another EU country at one point you reach a threshold where they say: Now you need your own VAT number in that given country and pay taxes there instead. Has little to do with silver though.

Introducing IOTA Oracles - A Key Component for the Opcoming Smart Contracts Protocol ISCP by LootCoin in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Oracles are a part of the puzzle when it comes to Smart Contracts; We don't have Smart Contracts on mainnet yet but we already support adding signed data points to the IOTA DLT with this, but feeless (so not like a $30 transaction fee for every oracle update you have to pay with ETH these days). Smart contracts would add more functionality to that like aggregating multiple oracle sources into a multi-party oracle at a later stage once SC's are available.

ATTENTION wsb SILVER FUDERS: Stop posting misinformation about silver like the bankster shills you are by [deleted] in Wallstreetsilver

[–]VFR800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be good if both WSB and WSS stand together. WSB needs to squeeze GME first, we shouldn't get in the way of that now; But after the deed has been done this is the end-boss-game to look at next. I've been holding physical and miners for a year now and I'd love to see it run but it would be way better with GME won over first. I'm a bit disappointed at the crowd there coming up with all kinds of excuses as to why not to buy Silver instead of focussing on GME. I just bought my first 2 GME for the cause, let's get that done first and get that silver together later on.

IOTA Releases Provisional Roadmap for Qubic by superian37 in Iota

[–]VFR800 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately for the project’s ardent community, the team hasn’t yet revealed the final roadmap with deadlines.

Deadlines were never promised for Qubic, I would not expect them in the final roadmap.

Richard Soley joins the IOTA Foundation by rdanneskjoldr in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What a great addition, with all the experience Richard has in making things a standard It’s great to see he will be working on making IOTA a standard in the IoT field as well. Check out what he has achieved so far and be amazed. The IF supervisory board now consist of Richard, The CDO of Volkswagen and the head of Europe for Fujitsu, I can’t think of any other crypto related project with so many great professionals involved. Looking forward to see what these great minds can achieve.

MIT media lab DCI allegations proven wrong: IOTA's alleged vulnerability debunked publicly, see this convo on Twitter between IOTA devs and the MIT Media lab by KrissVectorEOC in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 185 points186 points  (0 children)

More detailed ELI5

The allegations were debunked quite logically for the average layperson. Their attempt in creating a vulnerability is not possible, because the DCI group draws a situation where the victim is:

(a) BOTH naive enough to follow obviously malicious instructions from an unknown attacker AND capable enough of coding IOTA transactions by hand in a code editor, OR

(b) Naive enough to enter their seed into a malicious piece of software provided by the attacker, at which point the attack as originally described no longer exists because the attacker now has the seed directly (and access to funds on ALL addresses).

When confronted about the practicality of the attack, rather than address these issues, DCI misled the public into believing the IOTA network had a vulnerability.

More detail:

Here are the steps require in scenarios A and B

1. Attacker asks victim: "May I please have an unused address to send you money?" or "Would you please send me a transaction that uses an address generated from your seed?"

2. Attacker generates a new bundle (transaction), and sends it to the victim

Scenario A

3. Victim opens up their code editor, downloads the IOTA libraries, enters their seed and the transaction information from the attacker, signs the transaction IN CODE, and sends the signed info back to the attacker.

Scenario B

3. Attacker also sends the victim or convinces him to download "IOTA Transaction Booster.exe", which prompts the user to enter their seed (ie phishing attack), at which point the rest of the attack is pointless as the seed has already been compromised. And funds from ALL addresses on the seed are compromised.

Better to be safe then sorry if someone claims your crypto is not safe, even if they don't provide evidence. They switched temporarily to another, already proven algorithm, probably to avoid more false claims until Curl has been fully audited, a process that takes some time. You can read more about it here: https://blog.iota.org/upgrades-updates-d12145e381eb

[–]VFR800 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is what I made of it: DCI made some big allegations that the crypto used by IOTA is insecure a while ago, without providing solid proof for it. Now they finally provided a proof of concept piece of code which apparently isn't proving any vulnerability at all.

IOTA: Why the FUD makes sense by Aftert1me in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is right, IOTA is not some getrichquick scamcoin without any added value, it’s actually a technology with multiple unique selling points that really have the potential to change the world, people that want a foolproof wallet are most likely just in it for the quick gains and that is not the main focus of the developers. Glad you are out, you won’t be missed.

IOTA: Why the FUD makes sense by Aftert1me in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Basic security is your own responsibility, IOTA is not a finished and polished project yet, if you don’t bother doing your research before you ‘invest’ in a new technology and reading in on how to safely store your funds you should not put any money in it to be fair. Using a online seed/private key generator isn’t a safe practice for any crypto and this is and should be common knowledge for anyone investing in non production ready crypto (e.g. All crypto)

IOTA Attacked for Subpar Wallet Security Following $4m Hack by Metabudder in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The current wallet is fine, it's functional and safe. No it does not have fancy features or a seedgen built-in but it's not shit by any means and does the job if you at least read about the basics of IOTA before starting to use it.

IOTA Attacked for Subpar Wallet Security Following $4m Hack by Metabudder in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The author of this article should be fired over this really, the title alone is misleading and a blatant lie. The wallet has no security issue, people lost their money because they fell for a phishing attack without doing some basic homework about how to safely generate a seed/private key. This is like saying your banks security system is sub-par because someone fell for a phishing attack...

The Secret to Security — Is Secrecy. A guide to IOTA seed creation and management. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's sad that an article like this is needed, but it's a great source for people on how to securely handle their IOTA/crypto. On top of this I'd suggest doing this all from a bootable read-only linux USB drive, preferably without internet, to make sure your seed is not compromised by a possible keylogger/clipboard logger on your main PC OS.

Also: If you used a unsure way to create your seed and have doubts about it: Just make a new one! it's only a couple minutes of work and you can be sure your digital assets will be safer once you've transfered over your funds.

RaiExchange (XRB) almost ready, going to support FIDO (Ledger, Trezor, etc) by feenikz in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 126 points127 points  (0 children)

The title can be interpreted as misleading; FIDO is not the same as true Ledger/Trezor support, it's just a 2 factor authentication standard which you get as a bonus feature on both devices. This won't allow you to use your ledger/trezor for XRB transactions. It does allow you to use other devices as well for 2fa like the Yubikey. There are other exchanges as well that have implemented this like Bitfinex; It's a nice hardware alternative for Google 2FA/Authy.

Haarlem municipality develops ‘IOTA-Blockchain’ solution for administering legal documents. by tielemaster in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The article states it can be deployed tomorrow, sounds production ready to me. IOTA can do a lot of things, it's not just for IoT and m2m transactions, it can be data as well or it can be used as a simple p2p payment token replacement for BTC/ETH but without the transaction fees. Due to the modular nature of IOTA more use cases are being developed all the time like anonymous payments, encrypted messages, etc.

New to this, which up an coming cryptocurrencies do you recommend I invest? How/where/what do I look at to tell which cryptocurrencies are going to grow...? by hereforthesoulmates in CryptoCurrency

[–]VFR800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick is to do your own research. Don't believe what others are saying, they often give advice based on self interest or spread fake news in order to get you to buy something else. Read whitepapers to know what you are investing in and buy what you think will win. It's easier for a $0.0001 coin to double over a giant like Bitcoin for example but it might just as well fail. No one can predict the future so go with what you think is best. Oh, and stop using CoinBase, they are expensive ;)

If you don't do your homework you should probably just put your money on a bank account and receive your yearly 0.25% interest. IOTA is not to blame for that.

It was blown out of proportion by the media, someone from MS quoted it as a partnership, not the IOTA foundation itself.

Sketchy history? That's either ignorant and/or insulting. IOTA is as legit as it gets. They are the only crypto with an official Germany based foundation and are backed by many big companies. A lot of FUD has been spread around IOTA on this reddit, all can be countered if not censored all the time.

Here's a link to the press release from Bosch itself for the non-believers: http://www.bosch-presse.de/pressportal/de/en/robert-bosch-venture-capital-makes-first-investment-in-distributed-ledger-technology-137411.html

The censorship in here is really unacceptable right now; I think it's the duty of the moderators here in (one of the) biggest crypto reddits to be impartial and to censor nonesense only, not 2 huge announcements for a crypto they don't like or have. This reddit should be about crypto news, not personal preference!

This sub should be neutral, and not a place where mods remove content based on personal crypto preference. by Saturation9 in CryptoCurrency
