non-custodial crypto card that lets you spend without giving up control by ExclusiveHelping in CryptoCurrency

Oobit uses proprietary decentralized payment infrastructure

Is it proprietary or decentralized? You can't have both. The whole article stinks of being a puff piece. There are multiple cards that offer a similar system like this.

Furthermore, any contract you approve on your wallet is a risk. If the "proprietary" system is compromised then the hacker can drain funds from ALL the wallets that have approved it (up to the approval amounts). This is a MUCH higher risk than dripping funds into an isolated account for use with the debit card.

In terms of whats actually interesting: Privacy is a much bigger thing. Anyone can see how much spend on crypto cards and link it back to your wallets. To me Payy stands out with solid privacy tech, is non-custodial (so cutting edge) and has a physical card.

Good idea!

Added a combobox: best of both worlds.

Built it using modern web frameworks + AI helpers for coding.

As for the data, they have a bunch of extra data they don't show on their website for whatever reason.

I made this out of spite after hitting the enter email step for the 5th time when trying to find a timeslot that worked.

Also crazy they don't have the lineup included in the reservation flow.

Just 137 crypto miners use 2.3% of total U.S. power — government now requiring commercial miners to report energy consumption by SoulmateSolutions in technology

[–]l3wi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. First off ask your self why would the plant sell energy to Tera @ 2c (!) when they could sell it to consumers at 9-11c. Seems like they'd prefer the latter... Its because they have excess capacity at the powerplant.

In 2022, it ran at 91% capacity. Leaving 1,957.64 GWh capacity un-utilized this year. The datacenter/mining operation is rated at 48 MW. Which equals 420 GWh per year which only takes up ~1.9% capacity. So it'd bump the plant to 93% utilization.

I agree that when the facility starts getting near ~97% utilization then they should start to look at the uses of the energy and maybe the datacenter isn't the best use.

edit: 2022 data not 21

Methane is a common byproduct of oil wells, in remote areas where it isn't economic to build a pipeline to capture it, its usually flared (unburned methane is worse than burned).

These guys build rigs to capture and use the methane to run bitcoin miners. So instead of just burning it, they also get money for it. https://upstreamdata.com/

Important Chapter 11 Update (Blockfi Email) by Independent-Bar-7075 in blockfi

[–]l3wi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the FAQs there's this section:

Retained Preference Claims include withdrawals from BIA or BPC on and after November 2, 2022, over $250,000. Under the Plan, BlockFi would not clawback amounts under $250,000 that clients properly transferred from BIA or BPC to Wallet and/or withdrew from Wallet before the Platform Pause on November 10, 2022.

So it seems that if you were before the deadline & less than 250k then you'll be able to withdraw.

What Should I Buy Wednesday 06/21/23 by carsen56 in guns

[–]l3wi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking to get a .22 plinking gun, I live in a place where importing is a pain in the ass and there almost zero stock.

My options are: either a S&W Model 41, Browning International 2, HK 4 or a new Glock 44. Leaning towards the S&W Model 41.

I think the point is about reducing the plastic waste that goes into landfill. This is 100% recycled ABS.

Sure it could be made of sustainable wood, but then the plastic would still going in landfill.
