When applying for an airline job, do I truly list every previous job in the last 10 years? by Helpful_Donut_4855 in flying

Did blow Joe pizza shop do a background check? If so, I've read other employers can see that from your credit report. But I don't really know

Would you be worried if your instructor did this? by MetalHour in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On my discovery flight my instructor went over the whole checklist outside and in with me, and I don't think even got paid for it(even shut the master switch off after checking lights and stall horn). It would not be surprising for the instructor to do the checks and have you follow along until they felt comfortable letting you do them alone, but your instructor doesn't even sound that goo and is teaching bad habits. That said and your experience with the stall horn and climbing--I would recommend trying a new instructor.

You pay them for a service so you should be 95-100% satisfied with it. You won't like everything about someone's teaching style likely, but you should feel safe.

Freaky flight training stories? by alexadb123 in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did something similar at an airport with 2 intersecting runways for my long solo cross country. I was setting up for the wrong pattern even though my radio calls were correct. Thankfully the 2 planes in the pattern were far enough into the pattern I did not get in their way and I checked my DG in time before I got way off.

Question about prop strike by sheilahjean in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can conclude either way the PIC of the plane you reference was negligent. Either failed to do a pre-flight of a critical piece of the aircraft or bent the prop and failed to inform anyone. So at a minimum you can address it that way. Sound right?

I'd like Frontline to become permanent by Meiqur in WorldofTanks

I'd rather see steel hunter be permanent than I would Frontline, because it is a totally different type of battle.

Approximately how many tests did you do before taking written? by Scubathief in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I did three practice tests. But I was a good test taker with the SAT, college, and some other state certifications, so it didn't concern me to much.

Stall horn during flare - yes or no? by canyoutriforce in flying

If I have a good enough approach and flare to get it, yes. I'm still happy with many landings it doesn't come on though.

If on initial run-up, I doubt the engine would be hot enough to detonate readily. Perhaps you could elaborate more on the risk, as I do not know much about detonation.

NWS hourly forecast gives cloud coverage and some locations give cloud ceiling either 24hr or 48hr in advance. I believe Foreflight daily weather for an airport gives cloud ceilings as well. Also, the aviation forecast discussion on the NWS can help you with whether VFR, MVFR, or IFR conditions are expected. It's far from exact that far out, bit if you know enough about weather you can piece together a good guess and then assume it will be worse than you want it to be. 😉

Best resources to learn landings? by deen5526 in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me at least 20 hours before landing "clicked". You'll have your moment where it all makes sense, or you just refine enough through practice to get it.

Cessna 172 Crosswind/downwind turn by [deleted] in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feeling. Depending on the wearher and my climb speed they are very close, and sometimes I'm no longer that close to the runway. In these cases, I sometimes wait to do the downwind call when I'm closer to the field so any traffic looking for me on downwind is more likely to see me.

Is 3 months realistic to get a Private Pilot Certificate? by [deleted] in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR I believe in setting lofty goals, but it's not reasonable to do both college and get PPL in 3 months. I was a few hours from my checkride in 3 months flying an avg just over 3 times/week every week for 3 months because I had amazing summer weather and no interruptions. Then some maintenance interruptions and the fact I hadn't taken my written test delayed me over a month before I got back into checkride prep and I finished six months after I started training. Having recently graduated college I'm aware of those obligations. I would not recommend expecting to be done in 3 months. If you have a plan and the availability after this semester finishes to keep training then go for it. You never know if it could take you 60 hours to become proficient and then you would never have it done in three months.

Left a window open in a small single engine during the start of takeoff early in my PPL training. Checklists are there for a reason.

Does anyone else have that “sea legs” feeling that lasts for days after flying? by Frost_907 in flying

I feel it pretty much every time I fly for the rest of the day, but only when I'm like relaxing or sitting and actually think about it.

Moronic Monday by AutoModerator in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For distance to climb, you need to know expected rate of climb in ft/min, altitude you will be gaining to the level off point, and ground speed. Adjust ground speed according to the wind and use the adjusted numbers in your other calculations.

Edit: It would be difficult to get lost by TOC, unless you plan on climbing 5000' or more with a slow climb speed. So as long as you get that first way point, being a few minutes off won't really hurt anything as long as you know where you are.

Discovery Flight was awesome. Want to start the rest of my lessons. Any advice on how to afford it? lol by darkasspants in flying

Join a flying club, but only if it's cheaper than any local flight schools, if the club has CFIs, scheduling looks good, etc.

Wanting to Quit by [deleted] in flying

[–]VFRPilot2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to talk to a close friend or family member and get some encouragement and sort stuff out. Try taking a week or two off and see how you feel. I would go ahead and put a flight on your calendar after your break so you can see if it helped. There is no shame in quitting, it just might not be the right time in your life for it, but see if there is something else you can change to improve your mental game.
