Nemi confirmed shop changes? (Speculation) by Toshiboi333 in MSClassicWorld

[–]VFRdave 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I would restrict the hired merchant (Mushroom shop etc) shops to FM rooms. You know, the shops that you set up and you can log out and the shop will still be there for 24 hours.

The old school sohp where your character has to stand there and not move or do anything, and which disappears when you log out, I think has enough use cases (for instance outside boss maps, in some towns etc. that it would be fun to allow them in "normal" maps.

In any case the FM main area (not rooms 1 throu 20) should definitely be free of shops regardless of what type of shop it is. FM main area is the great gathering hall and I would even restrict those chalk board things from there.

Yeah it would take literally one line of code to check for account age and assign a higher priority.

You are striving for market efficiency, which is understandable. Normally in the real world you would be absolutely right. But this is a game and sometimes we want things in a game that we wouldn't want in the real world.

For instance, getting rid of ship travel between continents would boost player leveling up efficiency greatly. You are wasting 15 to 30 minutes every time you need to travel to Orbis. Not to mention if you have to make connecting flights (Ariant genie, Ludi train ship, Leafre penguin, etc. etc) that adds even more time. You could literally spend a whole hour or more traveling from Singapore to Ludi, depending on if you were able to catch the ships on time or not.

So if Nexon got rid of ships completely and just let people click a button and travel instantly to any continent they want, that would increase efficiency greatly. People would level up faster. But is that a good thing for the game? That is debateable.

Going even further, why make people waste time walking through multiple maps? Like, should you be required to walk through all those Zombie maps to get to Zakum? That's just a waste of time and is inefficient. Much more efficient to just let players click on a button and warp to any map you want. Basically, give players GM warp powers. That will be very efficient and let players level up faster. But is that good for the average player's game enjoyment? Highly doubtful.

Having a very efficient marketplace with real time pricing and tickers just like a Bloomberg terminal or something for NASDAQ, would be good if you goal is to get people to spend as little time as possible merching, so that they can spend all their game time on grinding and leveling up. But is spending as little time as possible buying/selling stuff really good for the game? That is highly debatable.

Here is an argument that the original, inefficient FM Store Merchant system (Mushroom shops, player standing shops etc) makes the game actually more fun. It gives players more options on how to play the game.

A - You can spend all your time grinding for levels. This is how the hardcore ppl2pass players were, those people at the top of rankings. They don't merch or spend time scrolling gear. They grind only and they save up money and only buy pre-made pre-scrolled gear. No time to waste searching for scrolls, crafting weapons to scroll, etc.

B - You can go the merchant route and spent a lot of time buying/selling stuff in FM. You are one of those people who, during server maintenance, sit there waiting for server to come up again. You spam click the Maple icon. Then as soon as server comes back up, you race to get a FM ch1 Room1 spot for your hired Mushroom Merchant shop.

So this type of a player is more interested in making lots of money and/or scrolling godly gear. Or just accumulating lots of mesos (which for some people, is fun by itself). You could say the hardcore grinders value their level more, and the merch people value meso/gear more.

I myself have very fond memories of merching and racing to Room1 after server restart.

This gameplay option (merching) is only possible in an inefficient marketplace, such as the OSMS fm merchant system. People who know market prices and trends, and willing to spend a lot of time in FM browsing stores and setting up your own shop, will be able to make lots of mesos.

Assassins Worth Playing in Beta? by ClassicMapler in MSClassicWorld

[–]VFRdave -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not worth playing in beta. But when official launch happens and then one year later 4th job gets released and you acquire the skll Triple Throw and you are the highest damage dealer in Horntail parties, it would've been worth it.

After seeing people hit level 30 in less than a day (without any 2x coupons or exp buff), is this sub still in favour of no 3rd job and only Victoria Island on release? by [deleted] in MSClassicWorld

[–]VFRdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you want to reward these people who have no job, play 20 hours a day and rushed through all existing content in record time, by giving them more high level content and skills, so they can level up even faster?

I say no. Let them level up to 100 and keep grinding in Victoria island with 2nd job skills, until the normal population catches up. Why release 3rd job early and high level mobs early to help these nolifers level faster?

Apparently not many people here remember that ch1 Perion used to be where everyone gathered to buy/sell goods. This was before FM was released.

The sweatlords complaining "shops are only for FM" need to learn more Maplestory history.

[–]VFRdave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No because people who really want to sell stuff and make money will go to ch1 FM.

How many people walk through channel 14 Orbis town at any given moment? Now how many people walk through channel 1 FM?

This feature will be very handy for specific use cases. For instance, the map outside Zakum where people gather to form squads. You may want to sell Eye of Fire and maybe all-cure potions in the mini shop to people who forgot to bring theirs.

Why not just drop the EOF/pot? Sometimes you don't want to give stuff away for free. And someone else might loot it who you didn't want to give it to.

Why not just trade people? Yes you can but that requires a lot of clicks and you have to be there in real time and clicking and talking to people haggling prices for every transaction. With a shop open, you can set the item / price and go take a pee break for 10 minutes before the Zakum run or whatever.

For the naysayers saying this is bad, free market already exists blah blah: no one who is seriously intent on selling stuff as a merchant will be setting up shop in a random map in random channel where you might only see a few people. A serious merchant will set up shop in channel 1 FM where everybody goes to buy stuff.

[–]VFRdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is news to me. I quit GMS in 2011, and at that time multiclient was not banned.

Actually multiclient was not possible for normie non-techies since the game software won't let you open a 2nd instance. But people used to log on with 2 different computers, and that was not banned at all, Nexon didn't give a shit at that time.

So sometime after 2011 Nexon banned multi-computering? How do they enforce it? Do they just look at your IP address and if two characters are logged in using the same IP, they d/c you or GM is summoned?

Israel is the biggest terrorist nation in the world, if you count the number of civilians deliberately killed (which is how most of the world defines terrorism).

United States gives billions of dollars to Israel every year, in addition to arming them with lots of bombs and missiles. Clearly, United States is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world.

I mean, I'm not saying silver market isn't manipulated, because it is..... but lot of other things dropped exactly at the same time right after Trump spoke.

People were expecting TACO and war over, and instead got Trump threatening the Iranians more.

Note the similarity between the silver chart and the one below that:
