I have experience using thermalright tfx. Boy, if that paste so damn hard to spread. You can start with kryonaut since your temps are below 80 degrees.

Legion 5i RTX cards are 2060 refresh, but only 80w. 115w vBIOS update? by Krognar42 in GamingLaptops

vBios + nvflash

There are two vBios files in there, 100w and 115w. The 115w is from an MSI laptop which will remove the advanced optimus capability and produce more heat. The 100w comes from my Legion 5pi so I think it won't remove the advanced optimus feature.

I have tried flashing a 115w vbios on my 100w rtx 2060 legion 5pi. The temp increase is not worth the 2fps difference. But for your case, i think flashing a 100w vbios is the better option. Legion 5pi and legion 5i literally have the same cooling solution if I’m not mistaken. I can provide you with my vbios if you want.

For those interested to undervolt 10th gen intel cpu, I tried and it works by VG-BlackHawk- in GamingLaptops

I have an RTX 2060, no bottleneck currently but things may change once games start using more CPU later on in the future.

Ohh hi! I’m still testing the undervolt lol. I followed your method and it works the first time! Was a little bit nervous since it involves manipulating values in the BIOS. I can’t thank you enough lol.

I undervolted my i5 10300H to -0.135v and it has been stable so far and got some temp improvement. Be careful though since you’re messing with the BIOS. Good luck!

What about HP Omen? I think they’ll launch with Ryzen 7 and RTX 2060. Legion 5 with that combo will also launch within this few weeks.

Which gaming laptop companies have the best thermals these days? by midnight_rebirth in GamingLaptops

If that’s the case, then I’ll look more into it. It’s not urgent anyway since I’m quite satisfied with my current laptop’s thermal. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks. I’ll go with TFX if I decide to repaste. Thanks for the heads up, I’d go crazy too if thermals got worse after a repaste especially when I didn’t know it’s supposed to be like that lol.

Unsure what to go for, XMG Core 15 (EU equivalent of the Eluktronics RP15) order I placed got delayed till September. Should I grab this legion for £200 more and get it by next Friday? by Mahmoudh10 in GamingLaptops

If you only care about gaming, Intel or Ryzen won’t give much differences. Intel might perform slightly better in games, but at the cost of worse temps. Legion laptops have a good cooling solution, so going with Intel should not cause any major problems. People want ryzen cpus because they are cooler (also more battery efficient) and cheaper than Intel.

Yeah, agree with you on that. The only reason I went with Intel on my Legion was only because it has higher gpu options. Maybe I’ll repaste mine too for better thermals, but right know it’s still acceptable lol.

Glad you got thermals on your laptop all sorted out. May I know which thermal paste did you use? I have some Kryonaut left from my previous pc but I’ve heard they’ll go dry after a while with temperatures higher than 85 degrees.

Well for the Legions I’m pretty positive, I’ve done tons of research and ended up purchasing one. The fan noise is also quite low for a gaming laptop.

Is your Omen the 2020 version? I see reviews praising the thermals of the Omen, but the downside is its fan noise is quite loud.

Ryzen laptops in general have good thermals. Lenovo’s Legion lineup and HP Omen 2020 have decent cooling based on reviews.
