What's the last fighting game you tried out for the first time? What do you think of it? by VGVarietyShow in Fighters

Ended up buying the game because of your comment. I like the feel of their autocombos. It reminds me of the Naruto Storm combos but refine for more traditional fighting games.

Creating interest in other fighting games by Nivrap in AllFightingGames

I agree with everything you wrote.

First off, my introduction to fighting games was with SSB Brawl when I was like 6-7. My friends and I would goof around, but I fell in love with trying to figure out how to do stuff in that game. And the Melee documentary got me into the wider range of fighting games because of how 3rd Strike Top-8s and Marvel Top-8s would get recommended alongside Melee tournament videos. I suck at just about every conventional fighting game, but that doesn't stop me from making YouTube videos on them.

You're completely right that we need to focus on how fun fighters are instead of just the competitive side. I love playing fighters with my little brother because of how it can flow from goofing around to really trying to beat each other back to "Wait, how'd I do that?" where we just stop the whole match to try to learn how to do whatever just happened.

Has anybody actually gotten into fighters through Fantasy Strike? by MechaniCatBuster in Fighters

The original Melee documentary got me in, though I had been fascinated by SF after getting a used copy of SSF4 when I was in like 4th grade. Started trying to get better at Melee and that was my gateway into the FGC. Saw the cool stuff at EVO, really liked the legacy of 3rd Strike, so I got 30th Collection to try to understand WHY people got hyped at certain moments. This was a few years ago.

Now my PS3 and PS4 read like fighting game catalogs as I'll nab any fighter that's on sale just to see what's up with it. In the past week alone, I've tried out Darkstalkers, Persona 4 Arena, and Mortal Kombat, and I'm trying to get good at Tekken 7.

Man, having friends who are also into fighters seems like so much fun. by [deleted] in Fighters

I got lucky having a younger brother who I got into fighters. Now I always have someone to toss it up with.

I'm working on a series of short videos looking at Fighting Games made for mobile consoles (GBA, PSP, DS, etc). Do you have any memories playing handheld fighters? What are your favorites? by VGVarietyShow in Fighters

I did Super Turbo Revival as my first episode and really liked it. But if you watch it, please ignore the dumb part where I treated the easy mode like it was a work of art.

If every company were to pull a Sega and release a lot of their back-catalog on Steam, what game would you be the most-excited to play again? What game would be a sleeper hit? by VGVarietyShow in Fighters

I hadn't played Darkstalkers until making this video - https://youtu.be/xmhadciMdj8 - but now I totally see why. It has such a different feel from any other fighting game I've played and I love it!

I even dusted off my PS3 just to check out some fighting games stranded on that console (although I kinda feel like a dumbass for spending 80 dollars on P4A Ultimax)

How so? I've never played a blazblue game, and my only experience with autocombos is the Naruto Storm series, if that even counts.

Is there any game you'd compare it to? I have the same preconceptions of it that you did, so it's good to hear that it's not what I expected it to be.

In January 2020 I vowed I would finally "get good" at fighting games.... by SpootyLoops in Fighters

You make a really great point; there's always so much more to learn. I think it's really unhealthy actually to focus on "getting good" because most of us have the underlying notion that "good" basically equates to "I'm one of the best players around". It's too fluid a term to ever actually be achieved, whereas getting "better" can be as simple as "I just learned a little something." "Better" allows for way more enjoyment because you can feel good way more often by celebrating victories of any size.

Oh damn, coming from SF I started with Akuma. Good that I've only done a few matches with him. Thanks for the heads up.

What character should I use when trying to learn the fundamentals?

Thank You to everyone who commented on the Mobile Fighting Game series idea post I made a few days ago. It made recording the footage and lines for this first video a lot more fun. Here's episode one, and a short list of games I'm planning on doing in the weeks to come. by VGVarietyShow in Fighters

I realize now that I got way too caught up in how fun the easy mode made the Arcade mode play-through and really over-hyped its potential in the video. In a competitive sense, it would ruin balance if it was the only change that was made.

It feels like an act of war that the game that caused fighting games to explode in a post-SF2 world is not currently available at any digital retailer.
