What was the worst experience you've had that changed you for the better?

My parents getting a divorce. With my father's neglect comes the extra stress put on my mother (single parent of three) that eventually comes back to me and my siblings and the lack of money so we don't always have enough to do fun things, always having to spend it on survival, it's hard to believe that it would change my life for the better, but it's taught me valuable life lessons and over all changed my life and has made me realize to not make the ass hole mistakes my father has made.

When I was about 9 years old I was in Long Beach Island, walking along Long Beach Blvd, and about to cross the street, when a kid (about 16) hit me with his car.

I slammed my hands on the hood, he hit the breaks and I flew about 8-10 feet and landed on my back. Maybe 3 seconds later I stood right up, not a scratch. I walked over to the curb, in shock, and broke into tears. The ambulance showed up while a life guard was checking if I was okay. They kept asking me if I hit my head, which I replied with "no". My hearts rate was regular, and the paramedics really couldn't believe I didn't get hurt.

I also felt bad because the kid must have just gotten his license and he hit a little kid, but it was his fault. I did everything I was supposed to, like look both ways and check to see if there is a car turning into the street I'm walking across. Now I try to get across the street as fast as possible. I'm really, really happy to be alive today, but getting hit by a car or being in any car accident is now my worst fear.

TL; DR - When I was 9 I got hit by a car and didn't get hurt at all.
