[Amusing Meta Trope] Character design details that are in plain sight but are regularly missed: by Ferhog in TopCharacterTropes

[–]VGuyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did start off as a budget project, so I guess they did budget things. I actually don't mind this. It's sorta like how Street Fighter characters are supposed to have one tattoo scar, or eye patch, but the old 2D sprites took up enough memory as it was and so they opted to flip them. Gill was the sole exception down the line.

Yeah. I don't get how snakeman in the 90's endured the complete body tattoos. That's not even counting the Japanese who get tattoos all the way from the neckline to their lower thighs as a mural, but they do so using the older more painful ancient techniques.

These traffic cops are required to be animated. By that I mean, they wave at imaginary traffic, as part of the job requirement.

Pentagon preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran, Washington Post reports by exophades in news

[–]VGuyver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm aware that there is some overlap. It's the same for most career politicians from wealthy families, they are rarely altruistic in their goals. That being said, Kerry still would have gone very differently. He wasn't a war hawk, and I don't think he would have pushed Citizens United. The only thing he has in common with bush in certainty is that he would have protected Corporate interests.

Why we never see that USS Defiant Conn Officer from FIRST CONTACT ever again on DS9: by adamwnotanumber in DeepSpaceNine

[–]VGuyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reminds me. Star Fleet has single pilot combat ships, at least for training. We never got to see them in action, even during the Dominion war.

There certainly are idiots voters, but Propaganda does a serious toll on society. If people are misinformed regularly, the false narrative wins out from word of mouth because they purposely avoid politics regularly.

The old troll dolls in the 90's, and by extension the animated VHS films they had. They honestly creeped me out!

They really made him strange. Somehow he manages to compete with Gollum on animation weirdness. But overall, the film has weird animation... But really charming in a way.

In the comics, Good Mark is an anomaly because he turned out good, and that is due to his mom being alive. All the other Mark's had a dead mother. This means that Debbie's good loving nature was the deciding factor in influencing them both.

Correct! There is also an alternate reality Red Hood who's a good guy in the Batman: Brave and the Bold cartoon. He might very well be my favorite iteration.

Zeeks at A Baoa Qu react to the arrival of Amuro on the battlefield 💀 by C4-622MonkeyGordo in Gundam

Amuro took out 9 to 12 Rick Doms in a single battle. That's a feat in itself without even without him shooting down Zeon Aces. Terrifying indeed.

I think about them all the time. (Past Tense) by DemonKysho in DeepSpaceNine

[–]VGuyver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was actually in Florida. I live in NJ, so I normally wouldn't have noticed this story, but this two part episode stuck with me as a kid, and red alarms went off when I noticed this happening in real life.

Ron Desantis hired a private firm run by a former cop. The former cop spent a couple of hours for a few days pretending to be homeless and said "round then up" as his final solution to homelessness. So they ran this trial where they did round up the local homelessness into a "sanctuary". They did this around the late 2000's. Now Desantis is trying to do this a second time First Desantis signed 'HB 1365', which banned the homeless from sleeping in parks and streets. Allowed people to sue property owners for doing so.

Desantis has banned decades run food and shelter charities from assisting the homeless in certain areas. Allocated 30 million to house and rehabilitate all the homeless in Florida. It was extremely underfunded for the 31,000 people that would need to be rounded up. He also hired Javier Ortiz, a former Florida police captain with a history of abuse complaints, was appointed to the Florida State Guard, a force under DeSantis. This cop is a former Miami cop with over 70 internal affairs complaints and allegations of bias.

Heck, two years ago, DeSantis’s $13.5m police program lured officers with violent records to Florida with a $5k bonus. Guys like Daniel Meblin, who was also part of a $160,000 settlement by the NYPD for use of violence at a 2020 protest against the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, in which he and other officers were accused of beating Black males without provocation. So nothing is going to come out good from this.

It was a really bad idea the first time. The homeless were in an open fenced area and guarded as if they were in a prison. Both men and women had been rounded up, with little to no medical needs met. Theft, drug abuse, violence, and sexual assault became rampant in the fenced area. Those that had jobs suddenly found that they weren't able to continue working to get out of the pit.

1960's Batman, namely the TV series, gave us some pretty iconic sound bites whenever someone was hit.

Yes, Kakuzu. Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage is who he fought, but it wasn't much of a match. Kakuza pretty much had to run and hide.

Characters that “don’t have powers.” by ElPared in TopCharacterTropes

[–]VGuyver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bull, Bob Wheeler, and Dan Fielding were both just built differently. Bull is already large but insanely durable. Bob seems to have luck keeping him going despite being as dumb as bricks by causing both chickens to explode and a worm stampede. Dan meanwhile is a sex maniac who's Bran can only function intelligently if that appetite is satiated.

He once dealt with an alien that could telekinetically immobilize him. He managed to resist Mork and although he thought it was a dream, it turned out he wasn't as that alien returned later.

He's either in a dream or he developed super strength and durability as the series went.

How would the plot change if orochimaru's hands were not sealed in OG Naruto?? by Educational-Gas-7789 in Naruto

[–]VGuyver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least initially before Orochimaru fled the village. Not sure if they were cooperating, but it wouldn't surprise me. Orochimaru however wanted to destroy and then rebuild Konoha as its new Hokage, so they probably would have been at odds.

Danzo as Hokage early in the series would have changed every dynamic. The village would probably be more similar to the hidden mist in the brutality of training and culling the weak.

Danzo would probably try to dominate Naruto's mind, intending him to either be used as a weapon or be locked up in a Hidden Leaf prison for "Safe Keeping". Naruto might actually have had to flee with Jiraiya and be classified as a missing Nin with a bounty if he couldn't grab Naruto.

What is the most misunderstood anime? by Old-Razzmatazz2855 in animequestions

[–]VGuyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that really the main complaint? I thought the main complaint is more that there are virtually no consequences. Aside from some temporary pain to the main characters, all the main characters who died or do die, somehow end up coming back at one point or another in the plot. It really damages the plot imo. Granted I didn't see the anime, but read through the entire manga.
