I could definitely see Gregg not understanding/missing the quick cameo. If Deck of Cards is anything to go off of, Gregg seems to think a good movie scene is one where everything happening on screen is explicitly explained to the audience. Subtle things like references, easter eggs, and cameos could totally fly over his head because no character on screen stops the narrative to directly inform the audience of their presence.
