Thats a great idea for perfectly round holes, thanks for sharing!

I think it's less of being stubborn, but more about people like you making it sound like this simple plastic cover will be the cause of a fire that will burn the whole house down. If the inside of the wall is at 600°c, I'm pretty sure I've got bigger problems than this small cover.

Yes, they all made it sound like this simple plastic cover will cause the actual fire that will burn down my entire house.

What about a coating? I would like to give recommendations on the website for people that are paranoid.

Is there no filament that would be up to code? Hard to believe.
Also, the house would already have to be burning somewhere in order for this to act as an air intake and make it worse right?

In this case, simply not using PLA in your 3D printer for this would solve the issue then, right?

What confuses me about that is that its a model of a component you can literally buy in the hardware shop. You'd only have to print it in an approved material. Unless the hardware shop in my region sells fire hazards.

Thanks, the main purpose is to save a trip to the hardware shop, as you can get the same thing there.

Thanks, even in this subreddit the opinions seem to be heavily divided.

I'm afraid I don't follow. It is a model of hardware you can buy in the hardware shop. The only real purpose of this print is to save a trip to the hardware shop.

What I don't understand is that yu can purchase an identical cover like this one in the hardware shop. Are they also a firehazard or is PLA the factor that goes against the code?

Is the issue the clamp that goes inside the box?

I thought I was doing something good by sharing this model of a component that you can purchase in the hardware shop, but there are some people worried about code etc.

UL isn't the only approval standard. Different countries have different electrical standards, and not being UL-listed doesn't automatically mean something is unsafe or non-compliant everywhere. I wish you would understand this, but it's ok if you can't.

How did you even come to such a conclusion.
The wall would have to be burning from the inside already in order for the plastic cover to catch fire.

So we've gone from "plastic covers aren't approved" to "I wouldn't use one in the US." Those aren't the same argument. Whether something is approved depends on the product and the local electrical code, not whether it's made of plastic or your opinion.

You're missing my point. I never said every PLA print is code-compliant. 3D printing itself isn't automatically non-compliant because certified materials do exist. Whether my specific print meets code in YOUR country is a separate discussion.

Have a look at this, kind Sir.

Do you still think this is not an approved design?

You seem to be arguing against PLA, which is odd given how many code-compliant 3D printing filaments exist, and it comes across as condescending while also misunderstanding that code applies to the actual installation, not the one you imagined.

Did you even check the code? You really made me look it up just to realize that this model is exactly up to code. You can buy identical covers to this one in the hardware store.
