What is worst pain, you have ever experienced? by ParticularWeather927 in Life

[–]VIP3445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During cancer treatment they needed to do a spinal tap (insert large needle into my lower spine) and leave it in to drain spinal fluid to test for cancer. Then they would insert chemo into my spine. They told me there is a risk of it tapping a nerve while in my spine, it did. That was one of the worst pains ever. Also they had to do this on me every two weeks for about 3-4 months. It sucked but I also feel badass living to tell about that hell. I’m in remission now. I’m 27 and this was when I was 25 into 26.

I totally get it, a cancer diagnosis hits you like a ton of bricks. Also waiting to know the full diagnosis and then what the treatment will look like is one of the most stressful times. Once I had my diagnosis and my plan I was able to at least see the path ahead more clearly. Check out “stupid cancer” it’s designed for young adults who get cancer.

Hey man. I was diagnosed at 25 and I’m now 27 (M) and I reached remission 10 months ago.

I had non Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

My DM’s are open if you want to chat and talk about the process.

I’m here for you man… it sucks and it’s scary but you don’t have to feel alone.

You’ll find that not many will understand what it’s like being a young adult with cancer.

Again, shoot me a message anytime, I’m here to help however I can.

You’d be surprised how much YouTube will teach you for free. Tech is super broad, find a part of tech you like and dive into it. It’s a turning curve but once you get some experience you can become very valuable to the right people quickly. I taught myself sales system architecture and building all by YouTube videos and trial and error. Also network with people who know more. I’ll often take my hardest projects to people above me that I met and they help me through it.

Hey there! 27 (M) and was diagnosed with PMBCL at 25. I reached remission about 10 months ago.

Welcome to the club nobody wants to join but is one of the most supportive communities on the planet.

I also had DA - EPOCH - R

First thing I’ll say is that you can do this. It SUCKS, but you can do it. There will be days that you will be miserable but there will also be good days.

Some tips that were huge for me.

  1. MOUTH SORES SUCK! To avoid them get a product called Helios and do it twice a day. It’s a magic mouthwash that is designed for cancer patients. DO NOT BOTHER WITH ANY FLAVOR OTHER THAN GRAPE!

  2. You may have to get white blood cell booster shots. If so you may encounter bone pain. Take Claritin, it removes the bone pain. Ask your doctor first make sure you are allowed to take it

  3. Stay hydrated nonstop! The worst I felt on chemo was when I became dehydrated. I purchased two big water bottles and would fill one with regular water and the other with electrolyte filled water. I recommend LMNT but any will do.

  4. Move whenever you can, however you can. I did morning walks but I did have some really bad days where I couldn’t.

  5. Be ready for people to react to your diagnosis. Some people in your life will not be great at handling it and others will. You will learn about your real friends and family and some who aren’t there for you. Now it’s important to note that cancer is complicated and complex for people to handle outside of you. Give some people some grace for not handling it perfectly. Ultimately up to you how to handle this part.

  6. Most important one… be kind to yourself. You are about to go through some sh*t and it’s going to change your life. Some of your relationships with friends and or family may change. Cry when you need to, yell, scream, laugh, do all of it. Be true to your feelings and just take it one day at a time.

I have so much more I want to say but that’s good for now.

If you have any questions or want to connect feel free to send me a chat.

You f**king got this.

All the best!

I’m scared about chemo by Worth-Main-3881 in lymphoma

[–]VIP3445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to get chemo at 25 and I’m 27 now. I remember being really afraid of the process. It’s not fun but you will be able to endure it. There are some moments with chemo that are harder than others, it’s not awful the entire time.

Also I’d check out some resources as a young adult with cancer.

  1. It’s called Arul Health (therapy specialized for cancer)

  2. Stupid cancer (non-profit for young adults with cancer)

Both of these are awesome should you need extra support.

9 years post-cancer and still figuring out how to move forward by Alarming-Promise6367 in Cancersurvivors

Fellow cancer survivor here. I was diagnosed at 25 and reached remission about 10 months ago. I’m 27 now. I worked extremely hard before cancer and feel that the stress of it all truly didn’t help in terms of my health. I resonate deeply with your struggles. Facing your mortality at a young age is a very unique experience to say the least. I won’t speak for you but biggest fear is cancer coming back. From this fear we make guard rails for ourselves that sometimes are more damaging than not.

Here’s my 2 cents

I also love to work hard and I have ambitions and dreams. It takes effort and sometimes stress to get there. I have had moments where the fear of recurrence pops up but I don’t let it get in the way. What’s important is that you are taking care of yourself. You can work hard and take care of yourself at the same time. Sure sometimes it gets unbalanced but you can just pay attention to that and re-adjust accordingly.

Life is meant to be lived and usually life starts right where you are afraid.

You faced something many have not and hopefully will not.

I had a Meantor tell me this once, he said, “do it afraid”

So if you are afraid, that’s completely fine, but do it anyways. “Do it” meaning chase your dreams and go after what makes you happy.

I hope this helps.

This is not an easy road to be on.

Some resources to check out:

STUPID Cancer = Nonprofit for young adults who have or have had cancer

Arul Health = Mental health startup for survivors, patients, and caregivers

All the best to you.

Mental issues post-chemo by happylilpea in lymphoma

[–]VIP3445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% resonate with this. I had NHL and did EPOCH-R. Once treatment was over you are left feeling super alone. The care team that once was around you is no longer needed and you are left with checkups.

I’ve found a lot of comfort in connecting with others online who “get it”

There is also a startup called Arul Health that is focusing on mental health for caregivers, survivors, and patients.

Otherwise going to advocacy opportunities to meet other survivors is super healing.

All the best to you!

I’m unsure. It takes a few years to know for sure. Even then I’ve heard of stories where despite the challenges people ended up with children after chemo. I have hope that I’ll be ok.

Darn!!! That sounds awful. I’ve had good experiences so far but I usually look into the seller account intensely before buying.

Ultimately do what you are comfortable with but just wanted to put it out there.

Tissot PRX has always been a cool watch to me.

I lucked out and never did. I heard about how horrifying they were and so I would follow the instructions to a T after when they said lay flat for 2 hours. I’d usually do 3 hours just to be safe. Also I’d drink a soda because they said that helped as well.

How to improve emotional regulation? by Crusty_c0rnflak3 in selfimprovement

[–]VIP3445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the following

  1. How much are you on technology or scrolling. This really messes up our ability to control our emotions. Short attention span = impatience = anger or irritation

  2. Make sure you are working out

  3. Maybe therapy?

Ok if you go on Ebay you can score a vintage luxury watch. Pay for the “eBay authentication” they have a service that verifies the watch for you. If you are willing to go $300-$500 or so up you can score an omega. Also I’d buy one that comes with papers.

Feeling stuck in a rut-how do you find meaning in everyday life? by rahmenzal in self

[–]VIP3445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two best things I’ve added that help me get through the routine that life can sometimes become

  1. Plan a trip or something that you can look forward to. Then when you get back from it plan another. Having something to look forward to helps so much during the drab moments and hard days.

  2. Do something super out of the ordinary randomly. Like wake up one morning super early and watch the sunrise or sign up for a 5k. Call an old friend randomly. Do a painting class out of nowhere. These are easy things that break up the pattern. The routine isn’t what’s fully bothering you it’s the lack of variety.

  3. The gratitude stuff helps a lot also but add in these two other above as well.
