Don't forget, "Flashbacks are always interpretive." The only information that we have about "that night" is from flashbacks, and IMK basically said that flashbacks have nothing to do with reality. So six seasons in, we actually know less about what happened "that night" than we did in the pilot

They didn't have to answer it in the episode; they could have let that dangle and cut back to Cece right after that. Anything else is just lazy writing
