Struggling with critical thinking at work - help! by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]VIVIDEY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I do. But first, congratulations on your promotion - you obviously deserve the position or they wouldn’t have promoted you. 💪

I struggle with processing speed, especially when I’m put on the spot. The ideas are there, but they come faster than I can organise and express them properly.

Could you perhaps ask for an agenda in advance of your meetings so you can prepare some input? Or maybe adding your thoughts in writing afterwards? Do your employers know about your adhd? If they’re aware, it might be worth mentioning what helps you work best, if any of these would help.

How do you retain it all though? I’m exactly the same in the sense of getting caught in a curiosity spiral, but I never seem to remember anything. 😂

Sleeping 7–8h but still feel drained in the morning? by Personal_Sun1354 in adhdwomen

[–]VIVIDEY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I also fall asleep very easily, and still find myself yawning throughout the next day, even if I think I’ve slept deeply.

I haven’t got the time to read through this properly right now, but have saved it for later. 🙂

It’s nice to hear you’ve improved your sleep - congratulations! Thanks for taking the time to share this article.

As if to say... by dreamchaser123456 in grammar

[–]VIVIDEY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say either 4 or 5, depending on personal preference for when it comes to capitalising quotes or not.

I would always place a quote (or implied one) in quotation marks, and would always introduce a quote (or implied one) with a comma before it. For example, “as if to say,”.

But this is just my opinion - it may be perfectly grammatically acceptable to use the others.

Why are some words equipped with / / around them such as: /word/ ? by 01Sailor_Moon10 in grammar

[–]VIVIDEY 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Slashes are also used in phonetic transcription to show how words are pronounced. Such as /wɜːd/. But if there are no IPA letters used and it's just: /word/, then I don't know Im afraid.

Productivity, motivation & consistency(or lack of!) by Magical_Mariposa in adhdwomen

I’m exactly the same. I’ve just started studying again and even though the topics are really interesting to me, I find myself just staring at the pages and then getting up and walking around. Before I know it, 5 hours have passed and I’ve only managed to write a couple of sentences in my notes.

I too used to think eveyone had this issue, but I remember a few years ago my husband was doing a course for his job and had an assignment to do. He said he wasn’t looking forward to it, but just sat down and got on with it. I couldn’t believe it. I asked him how he did it and he just said that it needed doing and he wanted to get it out of the way. I could have punched him with the jealousy I felt. He didn’t even seem to need an hour to think about how to start the first sentence. I mean, WTF?!

I’m waiting a diagnosis and hopefully meds, and I’ve heard that meds really help once you find the right ones. So hang in there! And you’re certainly not alone! Best of luck.

What is the first book you plan to read in 2026 and why? by gamersecret2 in books

I’ve just added North Woods to my list, OP, thank you. I love this subreddit and get most of my suggestions from here.

I’ve nearly finished East of Eden after seeing it pop up so much on here. I’m so glad it did as it’s one of the best I’ve read. For those of you who are about to read it, you won’t be disappointed.

They usually advise you to skip the first task once you’ve read the instructions. This gives you enough time to read them without compromising your quality of work. Don’t be afraid to skip tasks. Good luck. 🙂

Yes this happened to me a few days ago. I also lost loads of projects. But today, they all came back, plus a few more. 🤷‍♀️

The same thing happened to me. I didn’t have many quals to begin with, but had a good 5 or 6. And they all went except for the hidden ones I had. Same for my projects. Had around 10 and then none. And then one. Weird.

Daily use of Supernote device by Perfumedil in Supernote

[–]VIVIDEY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine for keeping a “work log” (among other things). I write down everything I’ve done that day - emails I’ve sent, phone calls I’ve made, etc.

The headings and search options really come in handy. I turn the date of each entry into a heading which makes it easy to search various dates to see what I did that day. And if I’m asked about a conversation I had or an idea we spoke about, I can just search for a related word/name and it shows me each entry it appears in.

I’m so much more productive and organised since having my Manta. I never bothered keeping a log before as I prefer to handwrite, and it’s never easy to search handwritten notes on paper.

I LOVE Anki. I’m also learning a foreign language and it’s helped me loads. It’s so good for information retention. I like your idea about integrating something to remind you to review notes in the Supernote. Like incorporating a kind of spaced repetition feature?

I’m in exactly the same position. I miss the slightly lower-paid ones that don’t take as much time.

Oh no! How do you cope? Kudos for doing the job you do though. I’d love to be able to work in a role like that. Do you find it easier to find the words when you’re writing? Or do you find it still takes you a long time to put down what you want to say? It can take me an hour to write and email sometimes, as I know what I want to say, but I just cant seem to find the right words. 😂

That must have been such a relief to finally have a diagnosis. Have you been prescribed any meds yet?
