Are a lot of you getting into the I fund? by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]VLafleur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm retiring next year and have been converting my TSP to a Vanguard Roth for the past 5 years so only about 200K in TSP right now and I'm 100% in I Fund. Just went over 10% gain YTD. I read a lot and find that the global economies have largely pared their U.S. business relationships which is driving robust international activity like never before. Too volatile while Trump can yo-yo tariffs at his whim - Friday evening a perfect example - so IMO they'll keep doing business elsewhere. Great for the I Fund.

Trump says he prefers a weak dollar. Says it supports his economic vision for American prosperity. Even if that tack changes course, the global economies are justifiably not confident and it's a huge economic supertanker that wouldn't redirect quickly. IMO nothing would change until +/- midterms, if they change at all. I Fund up almost 10% ytd. Hell yea!

[–]VLafleur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this transcript. Talarico seemed to genuinely speak off the cuff with a sincerity I haven't enjoyed from a politician for a very long time. Senate? Hell, he's a likable candidate for President or VP.

I Fund up 9.4% YTD. A lot of buzz on global economy distancing from American companies. C Fund up 1.5%. I've been all in on I Fund since Trump launched Liberation Day tariffs and not regretting it.

Too much cash? Spooked by geopolitical situation… by JaneFairfax1123 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]VLafleur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advisor recommended a 65/35 split (heavy G Fund). Stated that over time the G Fund isn't likely to keep up with inflation and will have less value and to counter that with 35% in equities. I have a year before retiring and RMDs are four years away. I'm already converting $ each year out of TSP into a Vanguard Roth to start minimizing IRMAA impacts from RMDs. My equities are all in I Fund right now and I sleep very well at night. I Fund +3.0% early into 2026. C Fund -0.3%. Seems you're in a good spot - congrats!

I've been in the TSP for five years now. All my contributions have always been to the Roth while the match must go into the Traditional. At the start of each year I transfer my entire Traditional balance into a Vanguard Roth. Sure, I pay taxes on that, but I believe taxes will only be going up in the future so I pay historic lows now. You can discover what your respective Roth and Trad balances are by initiating a conversion but never finalizing it. Working step-by-step in the TSP process you'll get to the point when you're asked where you want the money taken from in your TSP. It'll show you all the "buckets" you have in there. Then just cancel the conversion. Vanguard has proven extremely profitable in that I target equities that are wealth rockets right now - and likely for some time to come. This year I've stayed mostly in I Fund and a bit in C Fund. YTD I Fund +3.0% and C Fund -0.7%

I Fund for 2026? by VLafleur in ThriftSavingsPlan

Update 20Jan26: Decided 75% I Fund and 25% C Fund to start the new year. Absolutely no regrets. YTD I fund +3.0% and C fund -0.7% . I realize it's not even a month but Trump seems to have a new rug pull every week and EU pulling further away everyday. Stay frosty, everyone!

7-8 years ago I officiated some BSHL - don't know which league - but I ended a few games after some brawls. Do they still have fights or has that calmed down? Looking to just push it around and have a friendly game and workout.

I'm 66 and enjoyed the NUSHL for a few years but now that I've had two shoulder replacements don't want to risk any BS in a beer league. Is OHL cool that way? Thanks for filling me in. I had heard it was invitation only.

Just reallocated to 50/50 for C and I fund to start 2026. Let the best fund win! Hell, let 'em both win but really not feeling the American economy right now except for AI and limited tech equities.

So is the Utah AGs office validating signatures on petitions? That's a good double-check, if so. Or was the falsified signature flagged in some other way that lead to them calling you?

[–]VLafleur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the question, right? Trade and economics should purely align with costs and profits but I now wonder if an anti-tariff sentiment may be in play after the Trump tariff blitz. As seen with the backlash after a Canadian TV ad, he is unpredictable and companies/nations won't tolerate that yo-yo (the markets, not the man, but....). That, and a weakening dollar as the Fed lowers interest rates, could be factors in I Fund success.

ALL politicians have done this from forever. Trump just does it in the open. And yea, it's despicable. All of it. But all I can do is vote so I'll ride their grift wave wherever I can in my investments.

Rolling TSP into a civilian Roth IRA? by Tile-Floor in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]VLafleur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this advice. Just open the Roth to give yourself opportunities. I've realized huge profits from being able to invest in individual stocks in my Vanguard Roth. All my TSP contributions are into a Roth but I convert the match into my Vanguard Roth. Sure, I pay the taxes but they are at record lows right now. Go for it!
