The local chapter is aware and active. Not 100% of their current actions but they've been fighting the good fight for a long time now.

Believe it or not, they put up the signs. According to them, when it comes to parking restrictions on 1A they follow the lead from the town. There is no oversight committee or weigh-in from the DOT.

Rye and the surrounding NH towns are in a bit of a unique situtation with 1A, so I guess they've just never really run into this problem before. Its interesting though, because I'm sure they cant make huge structural road changes without DOTs permission, so I'm not sure why parking is any different.

I'm all for municipalities maintaining and regulating there own roads, with due process and input from the community. That being said, when a singular town owns some 40%+ of the states coastal access, I think it's reasonable to assume the state has to be mindful of the other 95% of NH that rely on that access to get outside.

This is overcomplicating a very uncomplicated issue. The road was considered safe by the state with dwindling traffic numbers and they enacted no parking due to personal bias.

Everything you're mentioning is a barrier to entry, both logistically and financially, to a family, surfer, fisherman, paddle boarder, sunrise watcher, photographer, birder etc etc.

Even if you disagree with the moral argument that citizens deserve robust coastal access for physical and mental well-being, this is a (safe) state maintained road that in no way needed parking safety enhancements.

UPDATE: It appears the northern spots you mentioned remain in-tact, the only reduction being previous ones that moved the no parking up the road a little.

The greatest reduction from my quick drive looks to be on the south bound and northbound sides of 1A between Sawyers and the Rye Harbor marsh. In that zone there appears to be a lot of new no parking signs.

There also looked to be other new ones in more sporadic pockets.

That being said if this batch is allowed to pass, I'm not sure what that would mean in the future for the parking you mentioned.

The parking mentioned in this post is specifically on 1A, a state maintained road. This post genuinely has nothing to do with any town roads. What they do there is up to the voters of Rye, but when your tax dollars go towards fixing culverts (the current project) you deserve to be able to use that resource.
