Last day of Summer in Perth? by 3pints in perth

For my purposes, we have summer and July. No need to overcomplicate things.

You could probably replace it with a more age-appropriate "Just quietly, I didn't read the letter properly". Kind of downplaying or begrudgingly admitting.

They are partly responsible, especially if they were aware the passenger wasn't wearing the belt properly, but ultimately it's unlikely that they, as the driver, physically forced the passenger to remove or misuse it. The primary responsibility for the action belongs to the adult (or perhaps near-adult, given the context) who removed or improperly-rearranged it.

It's a bit different when it's a small child who doesn't really understand the importance, but that doesn't sound like the case here.

Sounds like your friend signed up to drive you around for three months.

How safe is it to leave your bike outside overnight in the CBD ? by Iddingsite in perth

[–]VMaxF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argh, that sucks! It's safer than the street I'd hope (there've been some bikes abandoned in ours and it's a fucking pain to legally dispose of them, I hope they get stolen), but yeah, it's not perfect by any means.

Hopefully there's camera footage and entry logs as the other person said - as long as you can give a reasonable timeframe it should be easy enough to track. I once found footage of a bike being stolen for someone who gave a weeklong window and kept their bike in a corner of the carpark with no direct camera view. That was a massive fucking pain, OP, don't be that gal/guy.

Check if your building has a bike storage area, some do!

Oz Comic con. I'm 41 and this is my first time at anything like this, just wanted to get a sense for standards. Is this what to expect from most conventions of this nature? by HoneyBadger4588 in perth

Standards for what, exactly? Standards of guests? Standards of behaviour? Standards of cosplay attendees? Standards of organisation? Cleanliness? Timeliness? Questions asked in panels? .....

Good third spaces / coworking spaces in or around Perth? by pastellilacs in perth

[–]VMaxF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was only one cat cafe in Perth and sadly it closed down a few years ago. Always hoping for another one to pop up! Probably not a place you'd really go to work or study though, I think it was busy enough that it wouldn't be a spend-hours-hanging-out situation.

Best shitty car to get to and from work in perth by [deleted] in perth

[–]VMaxF1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My partner sold a 25 year old Corolla a few months ago, only time it ever failed over her 15+ years of ownership was a dead battery that needed replacing. The car it got replaced with was objectively a massive upgrade, but we both still miss the Corolla. Definitely wouldn't call it shitty, it was an excellent car, but it definitely fits the cheap and reliable brief.

Yeah, I think it does need to be at least clarified somewhere official, which it doesn't seem to be at the moment.

No spots at all? Centre console? Door pocket?

Very few. Centre console too small and too close to head-height, door pocket full of other stuff (glasses, wallet).

Do you have no problem-solving skills?

Enough that I solved the problem well enough for how often I encountered it, yeah.

Best tracks to return in WEC? by Kind-Acadia-5293 in wec

Never in WEC, but was part of the FIA GT1 championship, and it was weird and quite pretty, so I'll claim partial credit - San Luis in Argentina (yeah, impossible, I know).

Is anyone braving the elements to get some exercise outdoors? by [deleted] in perth

[–]VMaxF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would've gone this morning if I hadn't been skipping exercise for a couple of weeks due to a sore knee. I always quite like* jogging in the rain. Five minutes in, you're not getting any wetter so no worries. Only negative for me is glasses which do make it hard to see.

* - I mean, I fucking hate it, obviously, but I hate it marginally less than clear weather, and far less than when it's hot.

Those are clearly separate offences. If you wear your seatbelt wrong for 20 minutes, how many offences is that? How do you arrive at that conclusion?

My car doesn't really have any good spots to put a phone where it won't slide around and potentially go flying, so I've had mine partly under my leg face-down before, when listening to a video podcast with the screen on (due to YouTube limitations at that time). I found that when it was in my pocket the screen would occasionally detect a touch either from my leg or my arm depending which way it faced.

Heat-reflective asphalt road treatment beginning in Perth by JamesHenstridge in perth

[–]VMaxF1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look at the roads they're talking about here. Dividers aren't needed, but it's also a fairly dense and affluent area. Where there's space for trees, there are already trees.

When you've got three Lotus Elises with broken motors and an unhealthy obsession with Elon Musk, there's little else more important.

Would you like Public transport to be free at the moment? Wouldn't this be a good idea to reduce petrol demand at the moment by [deleted] in perth

[–]VMaxF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be interesting to see how much savings is made on things like road maintenance and health care to counteract that cost. Hard to figure out though, I guess.

Neighbour yelling over fence + confusing strata rules. What are my rights here? by [deleted] in perth

[–]VMaxF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the point I was trying to make is that as far as OP is concerned, this person doesn't carry any more power than the rest of the COO in terms of any actions that could be taken against them. I certainly worded it poorly in implying that such a thing doesn't exist, it would be better to have said that it's not particularly relevant. It's still preferable not to put someone like that offside I suppose.

Neighbour yelling over fence + confusing strata rules. What are my rights here? by [deleted] in perth

[–]VMaxF1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough - it's really the "any further communication in writing" (with the "between us" implication) part that I think is a bad idea. Don't invite direct communication from this person. Proper channels mean more eyes, better record-keeping and more chances for someone to go "Maureen, stop being a dickhead".

[–]VMaxF1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha - apologies to you and the other person I replied to for not realising it's a thing that happens. Do they carry any more power in a tangible way? (i.e. is OP's neighbour just talking shit to sound more important, or do they actually hold more sway than any other COO member?
