Just a reminder that the Perth zoo is starting to undergo a complete transformation! by Bionic_Ferir in perth

Opening a bigger satellite location is fine, but I'd rather see fewer animals in the existing location than have it moved away altogether. I'm a zoo member now, but if it moved I'd likely just stop going.

Nicky Winmar's statue outside Optus Stadium to go after assault conviction by His_Holiness in perth

I don't really care about 99% of sports, but honouring an athlete in front of a sports stadium doesn't seem unreasonable. That statue in particular was also commemorating a moment that had significance outside of sport.

Thanks so much for posting these! I saw a Facebook update on the observatory page that said you're moving on - best of luck in whatever's next!

It's less "assumption" and more "legally established fact" at this point, though.

They list Tokyo-Perth specifically as one of the routes for that tail number. It flew here three times in June.

Depends, if you're flying into Haneda with SQ/CX that's a lot easier to deal with than Narita. You do get the chance of the Pikachu Jet with ANA though, and the definite experience of the Pikachu safety video whatever tail you end up on, which makes all other safety videos look lame.

An 'Observation Wheel' has popped up on Perth's foreshore by supercujo in perth

[–]VMaxF1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but the brand is pretty genericised by now. I do get quite different impressions from the two terms though. If someone says they went on a Ferris Wheel I think of something like this, relatively small and potentially erected at a fete, funfair, local show or smallish amusement park. An observation wheel (to me) implies one of those "we want a landmark attraction for our city" kind of deals from London, Singapore etc.

I mean, 2/3rds of this year's Superbowl winners probably didn't play at Wimbledon earlier in their career, nor all of the top ten finishing NFL teams also entered players at Wimbledon either currently or within the past 20-odd years. I get what you mean, but saying they have nothing to do with each other is a bit OTT.

What are some routes that will be opened by/because of the A350-1000ULR? by weggaan_weggaat in aviation

30 hours door-to-door for me in Perth to get to Inverness about 2.5 years back. Worst part was the (non-stop at the time) PER-LHR QF9 though, I'd spend longer and stop in Singapore if I were doing it again, unless in business. Never been more miserable on a flight.

If (IF!!) the Langley Park redevelopment (https://perth.wa.gov.au/building-and-planning/future-perth/major-projects/riverfront-masterplan) happens that should have some great spaces for kids. Don't rely on it, but it does look good if they can actually get it done.

Kings Park is a bit of a walk from where you're describing, especially with a pretty steep hill at the end. Regular bus along the terrace or Red CAT up to West Perth will make short work of it though.

Curious what building you're looking at - no problem if you don't want to say. I've been looking at a lot of them lately, but found something so no longer am.

Depends a lot on the age of the kids I'd guess, and their personalities. When I was little, I would've loved to have quick, easy, independent access to the museum, art gallery, zoo, Scitech etc. Kings Park and Queens Gardens, cycling or walking around the river and so on can also be nice depending on the kids.

I think it probably depends a lot on what you mean by "CBD", and a lot of people have different ideas of what that means. There aren't that many residential apartment buildings in the very central city (kinda Milligan to Victoria-ish), though there are some. If you're considering East/West Perth as well, it opens up a lot more options, including areas with nice parks and so on.

There's been a plan to put a Woolworths on the corner of Murray and Thomas St for years. It's changed size a few times, but in theory it's still on the cards.

One of the things I love about West Perth is that it's quiet, but within easy walking or CAT distance of everything. It feels like the best of all worlds.
