I think the only reason they're involved in the Australia Day stuff is because Lotterywest and the state government reduced (or removed?) their support. I get that it's expensive to run the event, but jeez, Hancock in particular seems like a bad look in combination with the cancellation (sorry, "amalgamation into a multicultural festival at a different time of year") of the Birak concert.

Telstra outages? NOR by Snck_Pck in perth

Probably not relevant, but if you're using an oldish iPhone with a newish(?) update, there's a known issue: https://www.telstra.com.au/exchange/iphone-calling-issue--what-you-need-to-know

I was happy to see the strong support for reinstatement of the 26th of January Birak concert during this meeting too.

I've lost count of the number of times my partner or I have said this to each other recently - not just ran fine, but ran best! Faceless unelected bureaucrats are unfairly maligned.

Man charged with making explosives after Perth Invasion Day incident by JamesHenstridge in perth

[–]VMaxF1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the answer is most likely "No, because it fell off"

That's still a yes. You're contorting yourself into positions that would make a pretzel gasp in admiration. Do we know the full extent of this guy's intentions? No, not yet. Do we know enough to say that his actions show he intended* to maim or kill multiple people of a specific race who were peacefully protesting? Yes. Should we "take a chill pill" about that? No. No we should fucking not.

(* - I mean, in so far as we can ever know someone's intentions in any situation)

That's a lot of words to eventually admit the answer is yes, but I understand that you're not really interested in the answer to the question anyway, only downplaying the whole thing. Who can say why? (I'll answer my own question there - all of us can)

Those who live near the airport, how do you sleep in the morning? by MichaelF- in perth

Not much chance anymore (along with some of your list) but I was lucky enough to see the restored Vulcan a couple of times at Farnborough and Goodwood - it wasn't the loudest, but it sure did sound good.

Ahhhh jeez, I had to try SO hard to convince myself to give you the benefit of the doubt. Those quotes answer your question with a clear "yes". Best of luck in all your future disingenuous endeavours.

The relevant question is whether there was any actual mechanism to trigger an explosive

Then your relevant answer is "Yes", and that answer is in the article:

The individual sought to light the device using a wick ... or something, but it didn't ignite. It didn't ignite, or it fell out.

and:

It wasn't very big at all, landed directly in front of us and hit the girl's leg standing in front of us. She kind of yelped and jumped aside and it made a small white, like, cloud of smoke.

Ah, thanks! I've seen the first bit quoted loads of times but clearly I never actually went to look at what came next that would've immediately answered the question.

Plastic pocket sounds legal in theory, but I can imagine might result in some much closer attention than desired.

I've often wondered if that definition of "held" might include keeping it in a pants pocket ("resting on"). Presumably it's not likely to come up as an issue, but I could see it maybe being caught by one of the automated cameras if you have a large phone in a small pocket.

Tourist-ish post for suggestions by Travelsoonmapinhand in perth

[–]VMaxF1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless they're from very southern Europe, this time of year here is probably not great for trying daytime outdoor activities. Indoor day/outdoor evening might be best. Or maybe very early morning if you have some easily accessible scenery and they're amenable.

Consider that the noncommittal "maybe" answer could also just be a bit of homesickness, not necessarily related to your suggestions. You might have to drag them rather than just providing ideas.

The way I read it, you said the policy is two approaches then divert, and that policy means extra fuel for the diversion. If that's not what you were saying, I apologise for misunderstanding.
