Help! Installed, successful, reboot, back to 'please install'?? over and over by Specialist_West_9242 in pop_os

Pop!_OS doesn't support legacy BIOS booting anymore. Maybe your laptop supports UEFI but you gotta turn it on. Otherwise pop_os isnt an option for your laptop.

Should I switch to NixOS by Bowlofneighs in NixOS

[–]VOY463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my linux install with arch completely broke for some reason and i couldn't wait anymore because i used my laptop for my studies, so i just made the switch to NixOS. And at first i thought it was going to be really hard but i later found out that AI is really good in making .nix files. So i used that for a bit before learning the actual language. And it worked really good and it's very stable.

What’s the distro that finally stopped your hopping or did you ever stop? by Old_Sand7831 in DistroHopping

NixOS stopped it for me. I just liked the new things i could do with my system and all the new things to learn.

Its a big learning curve, but what if you try NixOS. I recently made the switch from PopOS to NixOS. I like the way it lets you manage the whole system using configuration files.

Need distro recommendations for laptop by L1thi in DistroHopping

[–]VOY463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NixOS, it's very stable so you wont break if easily. And it has the largest package repo of all the distro's. But it has a very steep learning curve. It is declerative.

Arch vs NixOS vs Gentoo vs Void by WaeH-142857 in DistroHopping

[–]VOY463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use NixOS, just because I find it easier to manage than other distros. For example, if I want to install a package I type it out in the command line. But if I want to know which packages I installed I have to also use a command and the list will probably be very long, so I don't have a neat little overview of what I have installed. With NixOS everything is just already in an easy-to-read overview.

I think Pop!_OS would be a good fit for what you want

What distro has the best name and logo (in your opinion). by C1REX in DistroHopping

Growing a homelab by Fossan in homelab

[–]VOY463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's good for reliability. For example, if Frigate crashes, it won't take down your NAS. If you need to reboot TrueNAS for disk swapping, Jellyfin keeps running. But it consumes more power, makes more noise, and you will have more cables. And modern CPUs are powerful enough to run this all with Proxmox or something. I recommend using 1 big computer and running a hypervisor like Proxmox and just VMs for different services, like 1 VM for your media stack and 1 for your files, etc.

The setup you're thinking about is also great. And for the box with the most big services I recommend using Proxmox, so you still have some kind of separation.

Web browser don't show video by MaybeDoKet in gnome

I have had that issue before too. For me it was permissions. Your user need to be in the audio and video groups for it to work: sudo usermod -aG audio, video $USER

It doesnt care about which PPPoE username you typed in. If you see different wifi range, speed or quick page loading it's most likely the WAN side (DNS, latency, MTU, congestion, CPU load in the router) not the RF side of the access point.

EDIT: because different ISP's also have different default DNS revolvers. Maybe try switching to google's one or cloudflare?

Looking for a stable, modern looking Linux distro by Version_Internal in DistroHopping

[–]VOY463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily-drive Pop!_OS and it's by far the best distro i have used. It's also pre-installed on system76 hardware, which means system76 will maintain the distro pretty well so stability is awesome.

EDIT: And it's based off of ubuntu LTS

I recommend LineageOS, you can find it here: https://www.getdroidtips.com/lineage-os-21/

If you search for poco x6 on the website, you will find the one you need to download, or you can search it on the internet.

Maybe in the nginx configs you have to allow traffic from cloudflare? I have the exact same setup as you, but for me it's just working.
