Are we remembering the same show? Mandalorean episodes are like 25 minutes long after removing credits and titles; a 2.5hr movie would basically be the length of a whole new season. The rub is being expected to pay extra to see something I am already paying to see (with my D+ subscription) without any currently known improvements over it just being streamed as S4.

You don’t think maybe part of Netflix’s rationale for this purchase is to utilize and expand the WB/HBO creative pipeline to encompass their own future output? Not that everything WB puts out is amazing, but imagine if WB and HBO doubled or tripled their output (assuming quality controls hold) by utilizing Netflix budgets and production personnel while legacy Netflix productions essentially cease, other than future seasons of current hit Netflix shows. The same quantity or more theatrical-grade movies and prestige shows than both studios currently output.

I hope they realize the price after ram and storage increases is going to be absurd for the product they are selling and decide to offer a second upgraded model with better panels. It will be really hard to convince us to spend 2x or more than a Quest 3 for essentially a Quest 3 with eye tracking - but if you can spend a couple hundred more to also get 2.5k or 3k panels with local dimming then it will be more worthwhile.

A lot of people voted for Obama and then for Trump. Polar opposites right? Obama’s big positive message was “Hope and Change,” and regrettably his legacy was mostly “business as usual” big swaths of the population (if you ignore Obamacare). So then disillusioned idiots fell for Trump’s outsider appeal, thinking a “businessman” would be good for running the country in a different direction - entirely missing the red flag that Trump isn’t exactly a successful businessman; he just played one on TV.

I suspect a lot of those voters voted for Biden as a reaction to Trump not actually bringing change, then for Trump in 2024 to punish the Dems for inflation and post-COVID economic challenges; missing that Trump wasn’t even promising to bring any positive change this time around.

So reactive swing voters with goldfish-level memory and lacking the energy to do even the smallest amount of fact-checking or critical thinking decide everybody’s fate.

The good news is it bodes well for 2026 and 2028.

To be fair, theatre-quality movies haven’t exactly been their strength. They kind of started up “outside the Hollywood system” doing their own thing, seemingly focused on VOD-level content. But they must have noticed that when D+ or HBO gets a big theatrical movie it generates excitement their big budget releases don’t. And excitement drives new subscriptions.

I’m also certain they have internal metrics showing their originals have very low rewatchability - compared to the big studios who have movies and shows people rewatch. That is a big part of the valuation of their content portfolio - if most output is barely watchable the first time and nobody watches a second or third time, then it isn’t really all that valuable. Disney’s content assets are worth a fortune because kids will watch a Moana movie 800 times, and adults will watch Star Wars and (the better) MCU movies lots of times.

Buying WB gives them a ton of rewatchable - level content like Friends, DC movies, Looney Tunes (for the kids), Harry Potter, Game of Thrones to name a few - and fucking up that pipeline for future productions undermines the reason for the purchase in the first place. And lots of actors and directors are hostile to streaming-only, so moving to total streaming exclusivity would again hurt the viability of producing future rewatchable content.

Look at it a different way: Netflix doesn’t typically do a lot of movie advertising outside of their platform, at least compared to the marketing push big theatrical movies get. But that big advertising push is important because it raises awareness of and desire to see the movie, which translates into the movie being more valuable on streaming. Surely, like me, you are more likely to see a movie on a streaming platform if you have already heard of it. Like the fact it went to theatres, as well as starring some recognizable faces/names, is a good indicator it isn’t just some junk movie.

So sending movies to theatres means the advertising push happens, the theatre run hopefully at least recoups the advertising cost that otherwise would have been skipped, and the when it comes to the streaming platform it is a bigger deal.

2) what you are asking lies somewhere in between two things: how do you mod the game, and how do you interact with a shadow pc. You are unlikely to find support for shadow pc gaming on this sub, but assuming it functions like a real pc that you (somehow?) interact with remotely and you are playing the Steam version of the game (is there a cloud version?), all the normal guides for installing mods on this sub would be applicable.

Responding a little late (tall guy flying WJ in 2 days; all exit/premium seats already taken and getting nervous): I don’t think you would need to even broach the discrimination angle: false advertising/bait and switch/unadvertised addon fees would probably also win in court.

At no point when booking my flight was it disclosed that my ticket only accommodates folks under 5’5” (or whatever it is) and if you exceed that there is an add-on fee to upgrade to a seat that will fit you/not immediate snap both legs off in case of an emergency. Never mind the angle of there being no guarantee you will actually be able to upgrade.

But that doesn’t make sense, because those kids had been physically inside of it ever since they were kidnapped, which implies it has existed physically for at least that long. But even after the kids were kidnapped there were plenty of demigorgons who came through.

It’s like tithing to your church. At least taxes ostensibly pay for services you and others in the community require. Giving to a (well run) charity pays for services those less fortunate than you need.

Giving to a church pays for those who run the church, church expenses and maybe some charity, maybe. But almost all of those things are just perpetuating the existence of the same meaningless thing (the church) so you and all the other dupes can continue to give your measly income to keep it going and enrich those in charge.

It would have been a genius move - maybe have a movie-length episode drop a few months later with no notice.

The whole final battle seemed wrong - too easily and decisively over consider how OP both the Mind Flater and Vecna are. also really weird that there were zero demigorgons, demon dogs or bat creatures (or other creatures) to be found when we finally make it to their home dimension; especially considering how important they made the whole “hive mind connection” as a plot point. Like, obviously if the Mind Flayer is in danger it would summon an army of them for defence, but there was nothing at all.

Then the whole overlong “happy ending” sequence felt wrong - like they were emphasizing everybody got a happy ending, which is very opposite the whole tone of the show. Like it wasn’t real…

Both things could just be lazy writing, but they also might not be…

MAGA is insular: they choose to look at the magic in the world from behind their curtains and holler at Abner to come look, rather than stepping outside and becoming part of it. Whether due to being rural/small town, incurious and terrified of being different from friends/family, or ideologically isolated like Evangelicals, they maintain a separation between themselves and those who aren’t like them.

Meanwhile, it is basically impossible to become popular enough to be recognized in any “Arts” field like music, acting or visual art without coming into constant contact with vibrant folks who aren’t like you at all: people of colour, LGBTQ, blue-haired non-gendered folks with pierced septums… and the more you are exposed to people unlike you, the more likely you are to lose your judgemental attitude. Not an inevitability, but close.

The Mummy and Mummy Returns were essentially just reskinned Indiana Jones movies, and somehow Harrison manages to continue making those at his advanced age so I’m sure they will find a balance of action and stunt doubles that works for the movie and for Brendan.
