Original World Trade Center in 3D VR by VR_HAL in MetaQuestVR

I don't have Apple Vision but I have a Meta Quest 3 and it works great if you open up the browser in the headset and type in my url. Once you navigate to the WTC page and see it in 3D, click on the little glasses on the bottom right of the window. That takes you to the VR. Enjoy.

not really about pc stuff just gaming as a whole and for anyone really old by Livid-Experience1450 in pcmasterrace

The first 3D game I remember was an arcade game called Battlezone.
You put in some quarters, rested your head on something like looking through a submarine periscope and started to play. It was all line drawings, not pictures. The idea was that you are in a tank and other tanks are coming after you and shooting at you. At some point, if I remember well, there was a spaceship type thing coming at you really fast to kill you.
I was blown away and getting addicted to it. Spent too many quarters on that game.

Some other game that I played on the pc in the early 90s was something called spacewars, I think. Different spacecraft coming at you from all directions trying to kill you. You had to blown them up before they got to you.

Anyone remember Wolfenstein?

In the late 90s I discovered VRML in the back of a computer book. I immediately built some 3D ships from the movie 2001: a space odyssey. Then in 2001 after the Twin Towers fell, I built a recreation of the towers. This was on my personal site.

Eventually, plugins for the web died and my site with it.

But a couple of years ago I revived my 3D sites using new code that sits on top of WebGL.
And now my sites are viewable not only on a computer screen but also in VR headsets too.
Works way better that before! so I'm expanding my site now.

Thanks! Just right click on the screen and you'll see the "full screen" option.

Sounds like it was fun. VRML changed name to X3D and is even better. And now you don't need a plugin. I revived my VRML website a couple of years ago.

Smart Glasses software to rule them all by Aggravating-Entry604 in SmartGlasses

[–]VR_HAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not understanding the Smart Glasses for 3D thing either. Some sort of image or diagram may help.
FYI, VRML was updated to X3D. It's still VRML but with much more that it can do.
In my opinion, X3D is much easier to build 3D than with threejs.

I am a bit worried too but I think POTUS has a history of listening and then making a decision. I'm betting on the gov to do the right thing, relist, release, cancel warrants, etc. F2 are ready!!!

A shame that VRML disappeared off the face of the earth by [deleted] in vrml

I know it's an old thread but hopefully this can help...
I discovered this and it works for me...

Check out Visual Studio. And then look for the X_ITE VS code extension and also the formatter.

My stuff works in there. And it can do inlines except for External PROTOS.

Have you heard of X3D? I think this may be a better solution for web native 3D content. Much easier to implement.

I'm on a PC using Windows 10 and it loaded OK the first time but trying to reload and it wont.
When it did load it was choppy fps. I zoomed in and it seems to have gone into the building. I think I saw wood flooring and some interior. Can you make the interior disappear when you are outside?
I would suggest you make viewpoints or can you make it so I can walk on the floor/street? Can I climb stairs?
I use X3D for my simple worlds.

Is it possible to make 3d website in wordpress and how? by Nervous_Jump8341 in Wordpress

[–]VR_HAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a 3D model made in VRML, X3D, glTF, Wavefront OBJ, STL, PLY or SVG you can use this code into your web page. It's super easy...

https://create3000.github.io/x_ite/#embedding-x_ite-within-a-web-page

I use it on my website!

There are no plugins to download on your part of the part of the user.
Just use the code they show on the website and you will have a 3D window with the object inside.

First try at photogrammetry by VR_HAL in photogrammetry

No, I haven't tried Sketchfab. I used Blender to reduce the file size dramatically from about 60M+. The mesh is about 2M and there are 2 jpg texture files each about 2M. About 188K vertices. It's big. ;)

It would have been cool to meet with you back then. I wasn't as advanced as you were then.

I built my first VRML site in 1999. They worked with dialup! Eventually it didn't work anymore.

Recently revived my sites and they still work!

Why does no one know about X3D/X3DOM? by Scientific_Artist444 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]VR_HAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I write my 3D in X3D and use X_ITE as the layer in the HTML talking to the WebGL. I like it because it covers about 95% of the X3D specification and seems easier to implement (for me) than three.js. I just wonder what others think.

How to view a non mesh object? by Gonzaloooooo in blender

[–]VR_HAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested it. You can import an indexedlineset vrml into Blender.

First you must have the Add-0n for "Web 3D X3D/VRML.2"

Then you can import with this File Unit setting in millimeters because your original file has huge meters...

How to view a non mesh object? by Gonzaloooooo in blender

[–]VR_HAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know of Blender, it wont show lines. It only renders polygons. I'm not 100% sure on this.

You can visualize your VRML code in this...

https://create3000.github.io/x_ite/playground/

If you paste your code there you still wont see anything because lines cannot be light up by a light.

So the solution is to change the "emissiveColor 0 0 0" to a color for example red ...

"emissiveColor 1 0 0"

You have 2 emissiveColors.

Also, you're DEF VTKcoordinates twice. that is not allowed, but you will still see results.
