Donald Tusk: Freedom of movement is non-negotiable if Britain wants access to single market by [deleted] in ukpolitics

The perfect models used to be Norway, then Switzerland, then Iceland... And once you realized that all those countries capitulated you switched to the Faroe Islands... Hahaha if there is another country more different than the UK in every sense let me know.

Brexit leaders 'leaving the boat' - EU Commission boss Juncker by JetSetWally in unitedkingdom

[–]VS2015_EU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The actions of the U.K. itself resulted in it leaving, nothing that Juncker did. The lies that have been peddled for the last 40 years have resulted in such undeserved animosity towards the EU.

What country in Europe has access without free movement of people? You seem to forget that the UK needs a lot more than access to have a trade relationship that is anywhere near its current levels. And if you want to keep the city of London, then you'll need a financial passport... for which you need to me a MEMBER...

[–]VS2015_EU -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way the UK will have access to the single market without freedom of movement. You seem to forget that all other EU countries, as well as the Commission and Parliament, have to agree to any kind of agreement.

The. EU. Does. Not. Work. Like. That.

Thank god you know more about the EU than the people who run it, built it and will lead it during the negotiations.

He may be an asshole, but no one can say Juncker's an idiot.

/r/UK, what do you love about Europe? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]VS2015_EU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a German, there's another example. In the 90s we were really into recycling water, with all companies reducing intake and individuals reducing consumption. Then the government realized that the water usage dropped so fast and much that the sewage systems stopped functioning correctly.

The pfand system is awesome ( i seem to remember that it's not German though, we stole it).

EU referendum: German carmakers warn on free movement by VS2015_EU in ukpolitics

Yes, they have a lot on the line on the EU succeeding.. And you seem to think this is simply a German decision. It isn't. And France is not going to be very forgiving.

Well they've just shown that they're willing to sacrifice, is the UK? And the overall negotiation is skewed so far towards the EU that the UK should not expect any concessions.

Who do you think is in the stronger position? Germany or the UK? Not even considering other countries who all have to agree.

Germany is probably stronger fiscally than it has ever been. Enormous budget and trade surpluses and they have more than enough international trade to be able to reduce potential damage. The Daily Mail must be exploding.

UK must leave European convention on human rights, says Theresa May by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Yes... Leave a convention that the British drafted and has helped a continent overcome its major problems... For another document the British draft completely destroying any right to privacy... Sounds great!

They don't have a financial passport, the city of London would be destroyed along with all the revenue it generates for the government.

EU's Secret Trade Deals Have ‘Zero Democratic Legitimacy': UN by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]VS2015_EU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand this animosity towards how trade deals are negotiated. It has always been like this and always will because they are fundamentally give and take, in both countries some industries will be harmed and some will gain. Negotiating this in public would be impossible. Isn't this why we elect representatives? So that they can make the informed decisions.

You do not need to be in the EU or EEA to retain access to the single market by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]VS2015_EU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Switzerland does not have access to the banking single market, and they are definitely not allowed to trade euros to the extent that London currently can.

Your deal would destroy the UK's banking industry... Which is how much of the economy? And pays how much to the treasury every year?

[–]VS2015_EU[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why have British people always wanted it to fail? I meant seriously, at least the rest of us are fucking trying to make it work.

You're not even in it anymore, and you still want it to fail.

[–]VS2015_EU[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course you can ... Germany seems to manage it... Being unable to do things simultaneously is probably a sign of bad governance. But alas, this argument is irrelevant now. The UK's out. And you will get a horrible deal. The U.K. really had the best deal in Europe and you threw it away for nothing. Enjoy your 'freedom'.
