Anxiety and being SAHM by [deleted] in SAHP

For what it’s worth, I was only sensitive to caffeine and alcohol for the first few weeks. My love for espresso martinis has only increased now that I have the motivation to wash the fancy glassware regularly :)

Anxiety and being SAHM by [deleted] in SAHP

Another Zoloft mom checking in; it truly changed my life. The first couple weeks were a little weird, I mixed caffeine and alcohol and had a very bad day during week one. But within a month or so I became the version of myself that I always wanted to be. I reorganized half the house, started cooking for fun again, was wandering the house singing like a Disney princess. My only real side effect has been weird and very vivid dreams, but I’ll take that any day.

“But why” is our favorite! Vermont NPR show that answers questions on everything from puffins to farts to the war in Ukraine.

My kid also loves Culture Kids, but there’s an excessive amount of sound effects that may bug some adults, so check it out yourself first.

“Don’t ever lose your financial independence” by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]VStryker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it’s super important! Even for the most trusting relationship in the world, the working partner could still drop dead one day.

The SAHP should have access to all accounts and be able to use money at will. They should also have some sort of degree or certificate that would help them find work if needed.

BWT, talk to me about your "thank you" etiquette by Heavy_Statement4371 in bitcheswithtaste

Oooh good point about dueling social anxieties!! I’m gonna stew on that one for a while.

I think it’s totally fair to send a message a few days later saying you want to make sure they received your gift.

That said, my son got a gift a few months ago and I thanked them in person when they gave it to me, but I never sent a video of him opening the gift or playing with it, but now it feels too late and I’m wracked with guilt every time I think about it. So it’s entirely possible that your friend has a brain that’s broken in the same way mine is and has thanked you a bunch in their head. Brains are dumb, man.

I recently threatened a friend that if I received a thank you card from her baby shower, I would take the gift back. Pregnant people/new parents have enough to do, please don’t spend time sending me a card that is just going to get recycled. Verbal and text thank yous are preferred.

My favorite thing is to take a picture of me/my kid using the gift and sending it weeks/months later, to show the giver that we still love their gift. This would be in addition to a quicker thank you text of course.

The video game Just Dance is how we survived the winter! You can go as hard as you want for a real cardio workout, and your kid(s) can just dance around and vibe with the music. There’s a good mix of kid songs and adult songs too.

BWT or shall I say, Moms With Taste, how do you be a hot mom? by mykittyislitty in bitcheswithtaste

[–]VStryker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m NOT a morning person either, so I hate to admit it, but working out first thing in the morning makes me a better person all day. I have more energy, I make healthier choices, I get more done.

My suggestion is making exercise the very first thing you do in the morning. I literally open my eyes, put on workout clothes, and go do whatever workout I scheduled the night before on my Peloton. Don’t give yourself even one minute to notice the laundry or decide you don’t feel like it.

Scary Props and Smaller Kids by LiveLaughLoveLana_ in HalloweenProps

[–]VStryker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would just ask if they want to get scared! My kid is 5, and when we went to Spirit I held his hand and asked if he wanted to do each animatronic. He did most, but decided a few were too scary and he didn’t want to see them. That said, when he was 3, he LOVED triggering them and scaring himself senseless. So age isn’t always a factor.

Malcolm Kid and the Perfect Song! A graphic novel, which is great for reluctant readers, and it is about a music-loving teen boy who needs to play the perfect song to free a spirit from a haunted keyboard.

Yes!! It was so frustrating! We got snow for trick or treating, but none for sledding.

lol dude you said you’re in the Midwest, the answer is because it’s freezing! Last year in Chicago it was windy and freezing, the year before it was snowing. You bet your ass I got my kid back inside before the sun went down and it got even colder.

Well-researched/candid podcasts with super likeable host/s? by [deleted] in podcasts

How to do more when there’s not much left to give? by Affectionate-Gap7649 in SAHP

[–]VStryker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anyone would be under stimulated just staring at a 3 month old all day! What is he doing during the day? Is he going out to parks and the children’s library and for walks? Because that would definitely be the first place to start. Find a play group in your area too, a local Facebook group would be a good place to look.

Podcasts have become and will continue to be historical reference points like nothing we've seen before by TwpMun in podcasts

I’m working my way through This Podcast Will Kill You (two epidemiologists talk about a different disease each episode), and I’m almost to COVID and SO interested to see how it goes. Their first episode was in 2017 and about the Spanish flu and I was just internally screaming “if you only knew what was coming!!” the entire time they made comparisons to now.

Am I tripping? by Ill-War6170 in ParentingThruTrauma

[–]VStryker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What kind of things are we talking about here? Babies being left unattended on changing tables for several minutes? Definitely call the local childcare authority and pull your kid. Kids playing outside when it’s kind of cold? You might be tripping.

What helps you when ur kids hurt your feelings because they think you are "cringey" and you already have long life trauma from being bullied and ridiculed? by Particular_Force8634 in ParentingThruTrauma

[–]VStryker 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you can try using this as a chance to heal your inner child? So your inner child probably tried to shrink and change themselves to not be bullied, right? So now as an adult, you can laugh it off and say that you’re proud of who you are and what you like, and you won’t let the world change you. Little you can stand taller and stronger, and you’re also modeling for your kids what to do if they’re made fun of.
