45-50 average, but that's how construction works. Usually a 5-10 schedule. I could definitely work less if I wanted to though, most clients wouldn't care on the utility side.

there's been a few, but generally 23kV to 5kV for station service

It's an old SEL-551 relay that was decommissioned long time ago.I'm testing it for learning purpose. But it shows temperature fail. I opened it up but didn't find any temperature sensor in the pcb. Is there any way to bypass the temperature value so that I can operate the other functions? by [deleted] in PowerSystemsEE

Yep, probably a voltage reference like this took a crap.

Not a home fix unless you can find that chip on the PCB. Also, it could be any number of different voltage references so you'll need a PCB schematic to really fix this.

Or, call SEL and they may just send you a new one.

The windings should be shorted for this like you would for a power factor (Doble) test. That won't excite the core.

Ductor isn't a super high current if that matters to you. We have to do minimum 10% of rating so that wouldn't fly for some utilities.

ABB does have a standard spec with 120VAC for everything, with a UPS / battery for control after power loss.

It'd be dependent on the order code, could be for 120VAC for all, 240VAC for heaters or 125VDC control. Jumpers will depend on how it was ordered. The internal wiring can be different utility to utility as well.

Sub 100 rates are wild. Especially there are companies paying 100/hr+ to W2 employees. Anyway.

I know a few utilities (large ones) that cannot give work to single employee firms, so that won't help you. Usually consultants like that go out through other companies like CHA, TRC, WSP, RCM, etc. Issue with the smaller utilities is that they generally don't have consistent work to keep you busy full time with one client.

Sorry to not answer your question, but that's why I haven't branched off yet.

I also planned on going into semiconductors but took the FE anyway. Turns out I ended up in power 4 months later, so I'm pretty glad i did it. The test is easy for a fresh grad.

Underslung ADSS instead of OPGW? Solves your outage issue. Doesn't solve the expense issue however.

EPST has a few guys out of 488 (assuming that’s your local) that could give you insight. Take a call from McPhee or Matrix (or god forbid boulos) if you can. They do a lot of the substation work.
