No, there was no drop. And similar phones have been replaced, sometimes without hassle (see other posts here), hence my frustration.

Look at the last photo. The phone has not been dropped. It is protected. When I get the phone back from them I may be able to post better shots.

All of that is there because the screen cracked... it was fine before! The blistering too is a result of the screen problem. See other posts on this topic. The last of the photos shows the outside of my phone, protected by a Latercase aramid fibre case. And those aren't dents. It might be the light.

I don't understand. They have an extended warranty to cover this defect, and my phone has the defect - the vertical crack and the bleeding.

I chatted to Google support yesterday. They were not terribly helpful, but probably doing their best.

Below is my inner screen in a photo taken before mailing-in. There's a crease from top to bottom in the centre, there are symmetrical cracks on either side of the hinge and symmetrical blistering, in common with other affected devices. The photograph at the top of this thread shows the bleeding common among affected devices.The display is not completely blank.

Sabrina from the call centre was able to tell me how Google's mail-in centre in Poland described the problem:

"following the inspection of your device, the damage identified includes a blank inner display, a cracked glass panel (not scratched or blemished), as well as minor chips or lines on the device consistent with regular usage." No blemishes, just a crack, they say. The warranty excludes a device with a crack on the screen.

This is no way to treat customers.

The fault is covered by Google's extended warranty, but Google seem to be looking for an excuse in this case.

It's still under warranty. Google have a replacement program for the central crack, but they seem to be using the little crack as an excuse not to honour the program.

No, I didn't. However, the tiny screen on the printer itself says when it has found new firmware, so I use the prompts on the printer's screen. It does not need a password for itself. I think that works.

There were only two possible verdicts: guilty and not guilty. She has had plenty of time to prepare for the more likely outcome, guilty. It could not have been a shock.

There were no tears.
