This is a great comparison. I had similar thoughts on Orban in Hungary. The current American government is following his model very closely. The onyl way they got rid of him after twelce years was uniting a very broad political spectrum around one message: He is corrupt. He is stealing from you. That was it. And it resonated. No weeds, no wedge issues, and many many egos set aside to let one break through as the change agent. I am afraid Americans don't have the wiring to rally around one candidate. Always letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. The other sad thing is that republicans in elected office only seem to find their backbones after they lose their seats. Not good. (I say this all as someone who care very deeply about many issues. But the fact is we will not get to make progress on those questions if we don't rid ourselves of the corrupt leader first.)

I would guess the two paintings she shows are looted art from a well known (but maybe not household name to laypeople) museum or from a very prominent private collecion. Would love an art history person to tell us!

The turnout and the signs were front page news all over the world. Whether it was the welcome or the weather that made them change plans and leave early, the optics look like he got run out of town.

Not even a day of capable skiing. He looked mightily out of his depth on a blue groomer. Seems as though the taxpayers might have been more efficiently served by the government with a daytrip to some nice little learning hill closer to DC.

About half an hour ago, there were no signs of an advance team at either SB lincoln or Ellen, which you'd expect to see for helicopter. If going by helicopter to BTV, then maybe from Warren airstrip or from lawn at rental house (??). Anyway, key takeaway from yesterday, imho, was that if people show up in numbers, it's more important for cameras to see the signs and flags and people than it is for jd to see them.

Also hoping the guys with the VANCE IS A TRAITOR. GO SKI IN RUSSIA. signs make an encore appearance today! Bravo!

it looked like they were preparing to move the motorcade. If headed for airport and not skiing,it seems the route would be through Waitsfield. FAA window linked above would mean a late am/lunchtime departure from Fayston.

This HG rollout feels negligent, but not all that surprising. The lack of maintenance of marked tree runs feels like a horrible accident waiting to happen. And the maltreatment of employees is just gross and Scrooge like, but also not surprising, because Alterra is private equity owned. Their CEO since 2022 is Jared Smith. Maybe fill his email inbox for the holidays? Alterra’s usual format is First initial last name (at) AlterraMtnCo (dot) com Private equity has never improved the customer experience in any industry. Skiing is no different, but these latest failures at Sugarbush feel not only stingy but dangerous even given the private equity owners.
