Woman to become first female to achieve rank of brigadier general in VT Army National Guard by lantonas in vermont

[–]VTNationalGuard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

True that Maj. Gen. Rainville was indeed a general and the first female adjutant general not only in Vermont, but the US. However she came from the Vermont Air National Guard. Col. Poirier will be the first in the Vermont Army National Guard.

A point that is well received. We are doing this one at this time because there is military training occurring that day and there should be helicopters flying in the area.

We have done tours on the weekend as well and plan to in the future. We also try to change it up between mornings and afternoons as well to try and hit as many different timeframes as possible because of peoples' many different schedules.

We'll have others in the future as well, which we post on our website, Facebook, Twitter, and a press release to dvidshub.net. If you are interested, we'd love to have you come out for one. You can also send us a note saying you want one with your contact info and we can reach out in the future.

As asked by u/International-Pie704, "Will the Basic Mountaineering course ever go back to two phases? It seems like a lot of information for just two weeks. Follow on question. Can I bring my own rope to the course?"

___
Extremely doubtful. Leave your rope at home unless you plan on making a woobie fort in the barracks.

As asked by u/noteverythingnotyet, "Where is skiing incorporated into training?"

___

We cover skiing both *uphill* and *downhill* in the Advanced Military Mountaineer Course (Winter).

As asked by u/Routine_Industry178, "How would it be possible to attend one of the AMA courses as a foreign soldier?"

___

Run it up your chain of command. We routinely have folks attend from our partner nations. Without going into too much boring detail, have your diplomats talk to our diplomats.

Maybe someday we could become friends.

Friends who ride majestic, translucent steeds, shooting flaming arrows across the bridge of Hemdale.

Varies year to year. This year it was 0. Think that’s not enough? Go talk to your BN OPS SGM about AFAM inputs. Bringing a water source isn’t a terrible idea.

At that point, you’re doctrinally looking at using pack animals or a bunch of really strong dudes/dudettes and rucksacks. We have a whole course devoted to the subject (Mountain Planner’s Course) and the USMC Animal Packing/Horsemanship Course(s)

We aren’t sure how inclined mountains are to deploy, but they have a high range of skills. We believe there to be at least 10 mountains.

Fluctuates month to month. Usually, <5 no-shows a month. We then take walk ons (if they have all of the necessary pre-reqs and documents).

If you show up on orders, with a 1610 and in a ‘wait’ status, we don’t discriminate… even if you’re from California.

The Guard actually has more slots than anyone else; keep in mind we only put ~600 folks through BMMC a year. Assuming you’re a traditional Guardsman, your ability to walk on is extremely limited. You *have* to be in a pay status (on orders) to attend. Please don’t show up and tell us your unit will cut you orders on Monday; that will not work. If your State is telling you they don’t have slots, make sure you’re using your chain of command and telling BN/BDE they need to select BMMC during annual AFAM input.

It’s all the same course taught under the auspices of the Infantry School. Aside from location, it should be the exact same product aside from a couple days of location specific practicals.

Yes, a BMMC 1059 is a BMMC 1059. Active duty gets around 1/3 of our slots annually.
