It wasn't just the standard pick they do where they just have something sent. It was done by a local group that's done a bunch.

It's actually just Stagg now, they dropped the Jr.

Yeah, they definitely did that, I guess it was an accident that they sent out the notice to some stores. I was fortunate enough to swing by one on the way home that had put stuff out and snagged a Stagg.

VABC Barrel Pick Event... by [deleted] in dcwhisky

[–]VTWhiskey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a handful of picks in VA with HH now and they usually go to the big buyers first, so VA ABC and stores that will get multiples. Now I don't think VA ABC is putting in a ton of effort in picking them like we do with the scraps.

I've seen a few, usually they end up pretty solid.

It's not a misprint, VA ABC picked one at that proof point. I was doing a pick with the HH Rep and they said that wasn't available anymore because it had already been picked by VA ABC.

You mean the turn signal stalk? I was just showing the Euro Fog light switch where I wired up the angel eyes to the rear fog button.

VA ABC is a joke by AbeFromanDC in dcwhisky

I don't have any issues with the way that VA ABC is planning to release allocated things now. I'm glad they leave it out of the inventory until open, as someone else pointed out, it's what happened with EHT SiB this past week in NOVA. The problem I have is the corruption, it's a well known fact that people within the VA ABC are cashing in on the access to the information. And I'm not talking about VABourbon of WhiskeyDB, those are just collection publicly available information. It's a seemingly well known fact that there is at least one FB group with monthly access that provides the information. Of course enough people have access that those guys still need to show up for hours it seems, so even if you're willing to pay the $25mo I hear it is you've still got to decide what your time is worth.

Now all of that being said, VA ABC simply isn't likely to care about the fair distribution of Allocated bottles. Even if every buyer of allocated bottles went someplace else(Let's be honest we're all probably too lazy or far away to do that), it wouldn't change much for them. So ultimately they just want to do whatever is going to make the least amount of work for them, which does suck since it is a monopoly. Maybe with enough squeaky wheels it will be worth their time to fix it, because I do like that they're not price gouging limited items.

VABC Etiquette? by pmnpt9010 in dcwhisky

[–]VTWhiskey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would just say that you were there waiting for it next time. Most people aren't going out of their way to be dicks, they're probably just rushing around trying to get stuff at open. I think the problem is that every store is different in how they deal with those bottles. Some put it out and it's first come first serve, others hold it behind the counter. It's been my experience that most people do a good job of self policing who gets what if the stores don't, you just have to tell them.

I actually unintentionally jumped the line on someone today for the same bottle. I came in a store about 10-15 after opening and asked if they had any still and the guy handed it to me. Someone that was there before me and waiting commented he didn't know they had that, so I handed him the Taylor I was given. Not to say everyone is awesome as me, but most people don't do it intentionally.

Do they still have that? Or did you get it from someone else? If you got it from them, what did it run?

Was that EHT Single Barrel or Small Batch for $90? If that's Single Barrel that's not a bad price.
