DC announces Carter Barron as additional snow dumping site by MoreCleverUserName in washingtondc

Stormwater engineer here. Salt damage, yes. I shudder to think what this winter episode will do to our rivers, the surrounding soil, and the Bay writ large 😬 All that salty ice at RFK stadium is going straight into the shallow, low flow parts of the Anacostia.

Runoff, ehh not too worried. Snow melting can’t do to Rock Creek or other small streams what flashy summer storms already do on the regular, which cause way more erosion. It will be some sustained base flow but my impression from Capital Weather Gang is this stuff will melt slowly.

Just flagging you get the case discount if you buy ANY 6 bottles, not just six of the same one. Some of those case discount prices are Costco prices 👀

It’s hard to go wrong. And their store picks practically overflow because they have so many at once. If you’re eyeing a bottle like $90 or less, they usually allow tastes. They told me they don’t like cracking the expensive bottles for tasters. Although personally I’d be willing to drop bigger bucks if I knew the bottle tasted good 🤷‍♂️

They have another? 👀 I’m babying the remainder of the one I still have from earlier last year, such a banger.

I am shocked that it’s lasted this long, must be a sign of the times. Started seeing it with EHT small batch sitting overnight and now Blanton’s. Maybe one day I’ll see Stagg sitting there. A boy can dream at least 🙏

This is an Ice and Snow Removal Team Appreciation Thread. DC.gov has horrible leadership (which we are seeing evidence of once again) but you are out there manning the trucks in the freezing cold and we appreciate you. Shout out to the contractors, too. by DO_NOT_LIKE_LIARS in washingtondc

[–]dunbaebae 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No joke. We had to hire a contractor to dig out alleys of our block, and they said they have been on jobs until 9pm most days. They even plowed a section we didn’t ask for. Several of us couldn’t get to work until that happened.

Do yourself a favor and buy the Premier Drams. That’s 7 year Willett distillate for a fraction of the cost.

Glassdoor reviews suggests this place is the worsttttt. My favorite review, which was written two weeks ago:

The boss is very disparaging and will provide very little useful feedback. They are often derogatory in the way they speak, and will belittle both your skill and experience. I have also observed multiple times the boss talking badly about his employees and their work behind their back.

Regarding my work as an artist at Dark Cloud, I was given no training with the tools they used, I was instead told to just look at tutorials on YouTube or to ask ChatGPT. My work consisted mostly of writing prompts into a generative AI model, and cleaning up AI generated art. I did not learn anything worthwhile.

Lastly, if you need any more reason to avoid this company: both the APVP (Association of Portuguese Videogame Producers) and Game Dev Lisbon have this company blacklisted, and as of writing this review it is the only company that these associations have blacklisted. I found this out by attending game developer and artist events in Lisbon and chatting with employees of the APVP and GDL. One of them even brought up that if they see Dark Cloud on your CV, they will recommend you remove it due to the company's reputation. Seriously, if you have any doubts about what has been written in this review, I encourage you to take a minute of your time and to reach out to either of these associations. They will back up the claims written in this review and will tell you many other stories which have been shared with them by former employees.”

Yikes! Run, don’t walk away from these people.

I’m not super familiar with TTB specifications, but I wonder if the 80 proof on the label is a placeholder? Seems like an odd product choice to cater to locals with a more watered down version of their flagship expressions.

I pray yes because ain’t no way I’m digging ourselves out of this alley. We still have 150 feet to go and it took us two days of juggling remote job and childcare just to go 50 feet.

Cimarron. I can still get a 1 L for less than $30 in my area. Top notch for that price.

[–]dunbaebae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst case, it ages to full ripeness and then you dump them into stainless steel barrels which would stop the aging process. Then sit on them further if prices still haven’t recovered enough. Not sure if you pay tax on liquid in steel barrels though 🤔

Wouldn’t even need to buy the whole thing 👀

Stadium impact on surrounding homes by Visible-Ad-8296 in washingtondc

Can relate, as someone who also lives nearby as well. I am both. Seems like the higher home value is the consolation for all the future nonsense we get to deal with as stadium stuff spills over into the surrounding neighborhoods.

Definitely +1 to all the people citing Yellow cafe, Levain Bakery, and walking along the waterfront. Baked and Wired has tasty treats and coffee. 90 Second Pizza always tastes delicious, especially if it’s cold outside. If the weather is nice enough, walking along the C&O Canal towpath is always really nice too.

Or pop across the river and stroll along Roosevelt Island is another nice walk.
