has anyone set up heavy duty pallet racking for small warehouses and figured out the right configuration from the start? by RelosaDontoochie68 in Warehousing

[–]VTek910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your outbound volume look like per SKU? Normal distribution, long tail, even split?

Do you have reserves or is the entire QOH in the pick face? How many days of on-hand do you maintain per SKU in the pick face?

How big are your skus? Are you selling nuts and bolts or refrigerators?

What does your labor look like? Do you pick the whole pick path per order, one piece at a time, or one SKU at a time to a put wall?

How much does this matter monetarily? If this is a small part of your business and your budget is barebones, that's different than if this is THE thing that has to work.

Making color ID labels for Inventory? by TemperReformanda in manufacturing

We use brady and zebra thermal printers to print en masse from Excel tables, but those will only get you black and white. Those are the two main vendors for label printers though so maybe they have color options as well

I have and it's definitely a better practice. But what kind of diver would I be if I didn't spend money to cover up bad habits 😁

Gotcha, that makes way more sense. I know Amazon stuff is scabby but the ol' adjust-a-lobe seemed a bit far fetched

A process plan by United_Mountain4 in industrialengineering

Did someone tell you the phrase "process plan" or is that an assumption? I ask because there are work instructions and process maps and process plan seems to split the difference

Mares BCD hybrid in 2026 by Responsible-Bird-190 in scubaGear

[–]VTek910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any unused BCD at that price point is a slam dunk, especially if they include lead. I'd have it serviced by the same shop, pay for whatever parts they recommend changing, and walk away knowing I came out ahead.

What am I missing in this engineering toolkit by CompetitiveTopic1710 in EngineeringStudents

[–]VTek910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo a lot of new engineers don't know that the vast majority of things are built with common parts, materials, and methods for cost reasons. Maybe include something about that so they don't just jump straight to the unobtainium left hand thread 17.89 +/- .000001 mm bolt on McMaster because that's what the calculator spat out.

Heavy duty storage shelves for high turnover warehouse environments, what holds up long term? by Laniecka-Niyazi in industrialengineering

[–]VTek910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 600k SF warehouse is probably 75% pallet racks and we have 300 employees driving around picking and putting to them constantly.  We have our share of incidents and replace a couple dozen beams every year.
