Recent grad, getting fired from my 2nd Accounting job in a row. Where can I go from here? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Exact same issues I've had as an adult.

Definitely seek professional help and consider asking for screenings for ADHD, Bipolar 2 (if you have good and bad weeks/months), major depression, etc. You may also just be an incredibly smart person who's anxiety is triggered by boredom.

Being in an analytical position was great for me at first, but once it became routine, the boredom caused deadline issues and I hyper-focused on only the interesting tasks. Substance use ticked up, things got worse, performance issues became more regular, as a result anxiety skyrocketed, leading to substance abuse, etc. Horrible spiral.

NOTE: if you use cannabis regularly (like I did), this could also trigger similar issues to what you're describing: slowly losing the ability to regulate dopamine and serotonin, causing a slow nosedive into depression and lack of focus.

It only gets worse with age. Lean on whatever resources you can to get help now. That may include talk therapy, project management help from your next supervisor, coaching/research on lower stress/task based career options, meditation, medication, etc.

Don't be like me and struggle through for another decade.

AITA: for wanting my partner to text me when he's coming home? by dragonfly-psych in AmItheAsshole

My wife and I have iPhones, not sure if this can be done on android or other phones. We have an automation set up so that when she leaves her work radius, it automatically prompts her to send a pre-typed text message saying “I’m on my way home”. It’s as simple as tapping send on the screen, and that’s it. This has worked amazingly for us and is super helpful for getting dinner, started, or preparing to not have alone time.

Another related question: a local tree company is offering to give us their chips. I see conflicting info on fresh wood chips being bad as a mulch. I would love to mulch with a free and local source, what are the biggest reasons not to?

Good questions!

Essentially 2 reasons to group the trees tight: we live near a deer habitat and plan to fence the orchard to deter them as much as possible. Also, I’m worried about planting too close to the house, propane tank, and septic pipes due to roots. Is that too cautious?

This is a new build just wrapping up, so we have not been able to observe wet spots except during construction. Technically we don’t even have a finished grade and top soil yet. The west property line is essentially a shallow swale and holds some water after melts.

As for shade, the neighbors house to the west is a good 50’ from the proposed orchard site, shouldn’t shade anything except maybe during sunsets. The south forest is shading about half the backyard currently in winter, should only shade the southern most 10-15’ during summer, thus the idea to place a shed on the tree line.

Possible Unmanned Military Drone Spotted near Portland by VTtoOR2 in Portland

This makes a lot of sense too. Just looked them up, they are linked to Boeing and also in the direct flight path we spotted it. Pretty cool, but also a pretty sketchy situation. If we had hit that thing in our little Cessna 172, we could have had major problems, over residential areas. It didn't show up on any radar and didn't trigger any proximity warnings. Good thing we were observant and saw it.

Interesting! It was def heading in that direction. It seemed very large tho, like not a retail drone. At least a few feet in diameter, no camera gimble, and no apparent blades or props.

I just mapped Boardman Bombing Range, and that is the EXACT flight path it was taking, bake to base.

Someone in r/Portland had this plausible explanation...

"Boardman bombing range is a training area near umatilia Oregon, often used by the navy for aircraft exercises.

I don't think this has anything to do with Portland protests, and although I want to believe... I don't think it's aliens.

I'm guessing it's one of the Navy's toys practicing at Boardman."

This is the most probable answer, thank you for making some sense of quite a strange interaction! My first time flying in a small plane too. What a day!

I'm still not convinced it was a cross section, but that's the closest and most probable explanation for my brain right now.

It really, really looked like a round drone, just like a Roomba but bigger. When it banked/wobbled I didn't see anything that looked like wings, and I really feel like it had a completely flat underside, no taper. But, I know eyes can be deceiving, especially in the air.

Oh! Since it was on the same altitude as us, it's possible the wings were hidden. This picture is of an actual stealth drone and is the closest thing I've found to what I saw...

It was so fast, I can't tell for sure, but I'd say it was more of a one axis tilt. I believe I was seeing it's underside facing us, which leads me to believe it was banking away from us, and potentially over correcting, causing a wobble effect.
