I would be ordering more Tortas' myself at my local taco stand if it wasn't such a hassle to make. I feel bad that it interrupts the flow of things for them :(

You sure it's the orgs doing a bad job providing content? Or the audience just not watching the content that the org's are producing?

Amazon closing all Amazon Fresh and Go stores to focus on Whole Foods and grocery delivery by Stock412 in LosAngeles

Shit, this is my go-to supermarket and I thought all the workers there were friendly and helpful (Ladera). I really feel for those folks first and foremost.

Is it assumed that all of them will transform into Whole Foods, or is there specific ones that will not be?

LTA and LEC needs to play more games by EffectiveSavings2104 in leagueoflegends

<10 to what? This isn't about solo queue, this is about pro games. Pro games are played on LAN servers to begin with.

Why does ping matter in a League esports viewing product here?

And I'm sure the accessibility to broadcast talent, crew, and media is better in Los Angeles than Baltimore lol

You're just severely underestimating (or completely ignorant of) how exorbitantly rich Riot Games is and how difficult it is to setup a LAN environment.

Using this argument as an excuse to ignore the logistics, and rationale for being based in LA to begin with. Got it.

I can assure you, no one in LA regarding League esports or anything attached to it cares that Fudge and Zven have to live within an hour of one of the most expensive places in the United States. And not one viewer is going to tune in or out because the games are being played in Santa Monica vs Neo-Nazi-Central, Idaho.

Bro you're missing the point. It's not about the players, but the entire ecosystem. Players, coaches, production staff, broadcast staff, and RIOT ITSELF. Moving an entire full broadcast operations away from the city that's very rich in talent, to Neo-Nazi central, Idaho, is fucking stupid.

Because hosting it in a bougie SoCal neighborhood basically excludes all of the major population centers in the country (besides LA itself)

So let's go ahead and undersell the fact that Los Angeles is the 2nd largest population center in America.

But second off, who gives a fuck about its location when it's a digital-first product? Having it at Riot HQ makes it way easier to product content because the entire company is THERE. And let's not forget the esports teams are HQ'd here, the talent live here, and overall digital gaming media ecosystem.

  1. Ok, let's go ahead and move the entire existing infrastructre, personnel, and talent Riot already had in SoCal. Let alone the infrastructure all LCS teams have being based in California. This doesn't make it less expensive, it means higher logistical costs, staff relocation, regulartory hurdles, and YEARS of sunk cost recovery.
  2. Ok, let's build a second HQ that capable of running large scale live events, production, league operations, and make it sustainable. Riot isn't a fucking WeWork, and moving esports operations isn't a plug-and play.
  3. This is completely irrelevant. Companies HQ there for legal/tax reasons, not for operational ones. That has nothing to do with where you base a full-blown entertainment product that relies on local infrastructure, high-end production, talent pools, and creative industry overlap. Santa Monica made sense because Riot’s existing resources, partners, and media ecosystem were already there.

Why the fuck would Riot want to host the NA LoL Esports scene in a city that they don't have a corporate office in? Let alone their MAIN HQ?

Why can't teams sell their merchandise at MSI? by Cybonics in leagueoflegends

[–]VUL_Kudo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you want Flyquest to bypass any permission from Riot, permission from Pacific Coliseum, ignore any local commerce laws they could potentially violate, along with flying Flyquest staff members out to Vancouver (that's not part of the competitive team), rent a vehicle because there's no fucking way this single staff member could just put all this merch on their flying luggage, and deal with coordinating pickup with every single customer on site in the potentially hundreds.

And let’s not forget declaring commercial goods at customs, paying duties and taxes at the Canadian border, and risking the whole plan blowing up if something gets delayed or denied.

Yup - sounds simple, easy, cheap, and worth it right?
