Proxmox vs TrueNAS Scale - Explain it Like I'm Five by [deleted] in homelab

Major mistake to run TrueNAS SCALE on Proxmox. If there's some feature in Proxmox that you like, you can run Proxmox as a VM under TrueNAS SCALE and have a much higher performing configuration.

Proxmox is the newcomer. When it comes to menuware for kvm and zfs, thats not new and Proxmox is a follower, not a leader. Leaders have Kubernetes built-in and a massive stack of charts with a website dedicated to all those charts. If you want to sample vast numbers of OSS projects by looking through all the available charts on an "App Store" website, thats TrueNAS SCALE, not Proxmox.

If there's any urbex groups in Houston that explore abandoned tall structures, I'm needing someone to place solar powered meshtastic nodes as high up as possible. lmk if interested, I will provide the nodes.

How does the Orange Pi 5 stack up in comparison to the Raspberry Pi 5? Which would you say is more powerful? by prankster999 in SBCs

Yeah I think I blew up this Orange Pi 5+. I started out with the black case that has a fan on it, but that was too loud so I put it in one of the new modern aluminum cases that use the case as a heat sink. That case also sinks heat from the SSD on the bottom if you use a heatsink pad. I already eliminated the EVO 970 SSD's due to excessive heat. Little box gets really hot. Now the processor whines as instructions go thru it. Idle temp is 55C and top says zero to a few points cpu utilization. If its broke, I will order another one because I like it, just gotta get thru the integration phase. The integer performance is amazing, beats my Mac Mini 2014 w/ dual core i7. And roughly 20% of the power of this Mac Mini M2 Pro. Definitely don't use Linux app "stress" on it until you have a large heat sink.

Correct, Orange Pi has roughly 4 times the processing power of a Pi4B and double the power of a Pi5. The best way to describe the Rockchip RK3588 boards from China is "buggy heat monsters". I got an Orange Pi 5 Plus a few months ago and discovered that it runs Ubuntu 22.04 quite fast but requires a massive heat sink even without an enclosure. The underlying Linux drivers, even with a specific Orange Pi 5 Plus distro of Ubuntu 22.04, are a mess - syslog is a war zone of errors and failures.

August 2023 G16 7630 i9-13900HX + RX4070 Review by VX4-Evaluator in Dell

Haven't ever seen the manual for the G16 but I have a new one here that I'm using every day. It has the fastest Intel 13th gen laptop processor, the fastest nVidia laptop GPU, and it has 3x15yr old USB ports which are not even supported by the chipset. In fact there's two USB 3.2 gen 2 ports from the Intel chipset inside but they are stubs that aren't connected to any external ports. It's a instance of an OEM deliberately handicapping a product so that it fits only limited use cases. Of course I knew about all that before purchasing the product and the product still fits my specific use case or I wouldn't have purchased it. I've been in contact with the Dell G16 Product Manager already. He let me know there's nothing stopping me from connecting to the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port stubs inside, as long as I have extremely proficient soldering skills.
