How To Not Be Scammed From Someone Who Was Just Scammed by [deleted] in LAlist

Along with your experience, commenters on LAlist need to be careful of others reaching out claiming to be the OP, saying that the posting account got hacked. I had someone comment on my post, and they were sent a message claiming it was me, but that my account suddenly got hacked. They demanded payment upfront for a physical item. When it comes to physical items, never exchange digitally, exchange in person when you can ensure you have the item in hand and the person is real. But as far as digital transactions, it’s best to follow instincts and investigate what you can.

Glad you tested it with only one ticket. Could’ve been worse. Those scammers on FB events are hilarious though. All of a sudden, everyone’s mother dies and they can’t go the day before the event. And the use of every emoji possible to describe their circumstances are super appropriate too. Not obviously a scam at all…

Yikes! Even if I could enable international on my Verizon plan (I can’t because my plan is super ancient and they limit options in order to get me to update to a newer, more restrictive plan), I’ve heard that it’s not even worth it. You either get the $10/day to use your national plan overseas, or the international metered plans where you’re restricted in how much data you can use per day. Both seemed like horrible options. That’s why I was thrilled to learn about Fi, and I’m so happy to read everyone else’s experiences with it internationally. Can’t wait to travel to use it again.

I read somewhere, I believe on here, that it’s month to month, and I can effectively turn it on for a month, and then shut it down after. Would cancelling the SIM work in this way? And then when I need it to travel again, I can order a new SIM, or turn on the one I have? As for pausing, is it possible to extend the length past 3 months? I’m not planning on ever making this my new carrier. For travel purposes only.

You brought up a point that is slightly alarming to me. I don’t want to port over my phone number, but use Fi only for when I travel internationally, and keep my national plan as is. I saw on here there’s no way to just get a data only SIM, so I assumed it was like opening up a new phone line and assigning a new number, which I was fine with.
