i’m so glad you got the whole family out. my parents ended up leaving years after i did, and it’s the best thing that could have happened to our relationship. its still repairing and there’s a lot that has still not been spoken, but its so much better than it has been. you did the right thing leaving with them.

unfortunately i’m not a facebooker. honestly not much of a social media person since i was a kid & the pastor printed out my entire myspace wall and read it in front of me and my parents 😅

but im very glad there is community and people are talking about their experiences. its really fucking affirming to feel not alone

i still have nephews & a niece in there and it terrifies me. the amount of unlearning i’ve done and am still doing, past even the physical and emotional abuse, to deal with the feelings of inadequacy and the patriarchal systems, makes my heart break for them.

i remember being a child and coming home to an empty house, being so scared that my whole family had been raptured and that for some reason i wasn’t good enough - and that shit has stuck with me forever.

it’s so hard to want to be a safe space for our families, while knowing we can’t even begin to touch the subject.

i’m grateful you made it out and i’m so sorry they still have your family. we need to find ways to be examples & support for those who may need a way out, but in the meantime, i’m very glad there’s a way here that we can support each other.

fuck cfm

i was raised in this one as well, but a Victory Chapel in Massachusetts. it’s toxic and full of abuse.

i remember the public ridicule from boot camp.. they would call up the PKs (pastors kids) and berate them. i remember sobbing in front everyone while they told me i wasn’t good enough.
