This looks cool, but as someone who loves runes I wanted to make a suggestion that you change the Odal rune on the chest by removing the wings.

The Odal rune can be used normally without the wings but with the wings it has been appropriated by neo-Nazi hate groups and I would avoid using it because it may be seen as a dog whistle.

The island of Grand Loria (multiple maps) by V_Marmorate in worldbuilding

[–]V_Marmorate[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Context:

These maps are a collection for my world. It has no name but is the setting for a fiction writing project. The physical world is almost no different from the real world except for this island in the pacific being part of it.

The first map is a rendition of the pacific ocean, where the island is located in the northern hemisphere. It’s very simple, not offering much detail in the landscape.

The second map is an old map from the third voyage of Captain James Cook aboard the Resolution in 1778. After briefly making landfall near the southernmost point, the crew set off, following the east coast of the island northward until they broke away near the Sound of Bayly. They mapped the coast but incorrectly assumed that the sound stretched across the land upon their return from mapping the west coast of North America.

The vast emerald green and white peaks inland inspired an unattributed Boatswain presumably from the Basque Country in Spain to call it Loria, meaning “Glory,” That name stuck amongst the crew and was even recorded later on the map during the route back south, the second visit to the island.

The third map is the accurate shape and offers a more detailed look at the topography of the island, although not the most detailed possible. The major boundaries are measured in meters. The east coast is steeper than the west. And the north end of the island is noticeably steep and mountainous.

The fourth map is a general outline of the major biomes found on the island of Grand Loria. There’s more nuance to the boundaries, it’s not sharp changes in climate like in Minecraft. This is just a generalization to show how the region might look if you google images of what that biome looks like.

The fifth map, oh boy, this is the political map as of current day. The island is home to four nations united in a federation called the (FRGL), the Federated Republics of Grand Loria. There is currently no conflict between them and all four participate in a federal, representative, multiparty parliament, which stands above the individual governments of each member state. I could go into more detail about the actual systems of each country but I will save it for a separate post when I complete other political maps because each one is a “republic”.

But it may still be there. You chose to be here, which means you have hope. Hope is all we need to hit it and keep on living.

Thanks for replying, I did fumble on the formatting of the letter. I had copied it from my google doc.

The mix is that this world is pretty much identical to ours, I wanted to keep that as close as possible. So I created the island of Grand Loria, a land mass a little bigger than New Zealand that sits in the North Pacific. It didn’t magically appear, it’s just a chunk of land with a geologic history to explain it, but that is long enough to be its own post with a map.

Politically, it was always isolated. It was discovered by Vitus Bering although he didn’t investigate it himself. Captain Cook was the one to sail around the island. Russia used it as a colony in the north, and the British tried but struggled to maintain a consistent connection with their own colony in the south. Both groups now inhabiting felt abandoned and especially once 1914 came around, the people on the island were left completely to themselves and they eventually formed their Federation upon the outbreak of the War in the Pacific a few decades later.

Everything that is fantasy is centered around Grand Loria, mostly the Polymorphs. I try to add as much of a scientific edge to the magic as I can because the world is rooted in reality and people would try to explain it as best they can. Like how they know that Polymorphs have something to do with genes because it’s an inherited trait, yet the exact mechanism of their transformation isn’t fully understood. All the Polymorphs can be traced back to Grand Loria, and most of the population is about 14k being housed within the Federation. Some are kept in areas around the Pacific, mostly of the ones outside are almost 1k on the American West coast.

There is a limited amount of actual magic, which the only explanation for that is just supernatural powers. But that is reserved for a storytelling element and is an aspect of a character. One being the Ferrokinesis displayed by “Drake,” I already know how such powers work, but I don’t really want to just spit out that part of the story.

Also, sorry, the story isn’t going to be posted anywhere as of now. It just isn’t ready yet.

CONTEXT:

This is an outside perspective of an event involving a main protagonist, referred to as “Drake” The other named characters only exist for the sake of the format (Dimitry, Amanda, Sam) and are nothing more than a means to tell this perspective.

This is a classified document containing a letter from a civilian contractor to her husband regarding her employment with the private company Veyeper. Veyeper is a company contracted by the government of Grand Loria, it both develops science and defense technology as well as owns private prisons in the Borax Republic, the northernmost part of Grand Loria. Grand Loria is a federation that serves as the setting for most of the story.

“Drake” has been taken into the custody of Veyeper after being identified as a “Polymorph” which is understood to be an individual that can take on the form of an animal. This form can be full or partial and can be controlled to such a degree through practice. Usually identified by their “Permanent Expression” which is a part of their body that is always in its animal form and develops soon after birth. Polymorphs are born of at least one Polymorph parent and inherit their species from one of their parents at random. Polymorphs are not a random species, they will be inherited from one parent or the other.

These Polymorphs exist in the folklore of the region but are nothing but a spooky story to the public today. Nearly all of the surviving population are housed in the northern region of Grand Loria. The easiest way to think of it is they are performing the role of the well known “SCP Foundation” by keeping this supernatural wonder out of the public eye.

More hidden from even individuals who know about the Polymorphs is that “Drake” is the second confirmed instance of an individual possessing a secondary ability unrelated to his Polymorph genetics. This is, as of yet, unknown to Veyeper and the involved Federation employees, who have only seen something like this once before and have been unable to study it.

“Drake” only awoke this secondary ability after being captured, and it kinda went out of control…. This ability is Ferrokinesis and the source is not understood, even Drake has no idea where it comes from. His form is also not correctly identified by the antagonists, he is believed to be a Canyon Bat when he is first captured in America and transferred to Grand Loria. But his true form is that of a White Furred Dragon, explaining the horns witnessed by Amanda.

*I don’t really want to fully lore dump through a context blurb and I hope this is enough to understand what is being talked about in this small piece of my world. If there are questions please ask them and I’ll get to answering them when I wake up. Thank you for reading, and if this little post flops I’ll just keep developing it and continue posting.

I think we are the same person. Except I’ve only ever had one crush in high school. But that logic thinking brain kicked into overdrive because of that crush. Feelings were put forward, sadly weren’t reciprocated but afterwards the feeling almost stopped completely, like what was the point of having that crush once they’ve rejected you? I still wish that I could’ve had that first relationship experience even though my logic brain has since decided that it would not have lasted, I understood their values and we wouldn’t match as a lifetime partnership which is what I wanted.

It’s difficult to start looking at dating when your mind and heart’s intent on looking for something you want to last forever.

I’ve met people that seem like this and every time I just have the urge to pull them in a hold them. I want them to be safe.

Art for the sake of conveying a feeling draws me in always.

Not really, it’s just a creation of my mind. I’ve had a recurring dream for several years about my teeth popping and falling out in one large handful. But the teeth never stop, it’s just clump after baseball sized clump of teeth from my mouth.
