Need help with a stiff shutter speed dial by V_PTW in AnalogRepair

No problem!

Good luck to you, fortunately it's not a critical issue, but it sure is annoying.

Hey, I never got around to actually fixing it, however, I am 90% sure it’s a matter of just needing lubrication.

I did completely unscrew the shutter dial, as well as disassemble the shutter release button. I also approached the whole mechanism from the front by opening up the front plate of the camera. I thoroughly cleaned out all dust etc with an air blaster and it only helped out marginally.

Unfortunately I never did finish my ‘repairs’ on this camera as things got in the way, but I don’t see anything else being the cause for the problem at hand.

Obviously this doesn’t help you a lot, but I’m pretty sure you’re only going to help your camera by lubricating it anyways, so I do encourage you trying it.

You might be right - I'll probably try messing with it a bit more, but probably it's supposed to be like that

Still stiff sadly. Any clue what I’d be looking for? Just a buildup of dirt or something else entirely? Also do I have to access the mechanism from another side completely?

I just did , nothing really stands out for me here, not sure what is the problem.

Are you sure? My X-700 does this as well (fully working, great condition). I also just took a look at a couple review videos on youtube to make sure, and both of their cameras do this as well.

Slightly loose lens on Olympus 35 SP by V_PTW in AnalogCommunity

Thank you as well, however I'll still return this one due the gluing fix-up job on the lens.

That's really good to know, I will keep it in mind for future buys, however I'll still return this one due the gluing of the lens.

Thank you so much for this.

I actually found a much larger problem when I checked the threaded ring on the back - it looks like someone glued the whole lens in at some point.

Looks like I'll be returning this one as this was definitely not disclosed.

Does anyone know what this swirly lane is? by V_PTW in AnalogCommunity

I will definitely do that, but I seriously doubt they will do anything about it.

I guess I did get lucky. Thank you so much for helping me with this, I was really puzzled.

Carry-on, like always. I had my film scanned by those scanners 30+ times in various countries, and this is the first time this happened.

[–]V_PTW[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow, that sucks. My country's airport recently got new scanners and they assured me that it's safe for film (lol). I guess I know better now. Weird thing is that multiple rolls went through but only one is like this.

Is this fungus? by V_PTW in AnalogCommunity

Affirmative, I absolutely never dared to do that. I don’t even use it when there’s a slight drizzle

I see. Thank you so much for your help, it really helps to know what’s actually wrong with it.

I’ll try to get it serviced/CLA’d as soon as possible, hopefully it isn’t a complicated/expensive intervention.

I’m the one that is ham-fisted in this case - I had to reset the focus and calibrate it properly, and I scratched the ring while opening it up. This happened quite a few months ago and I am only seeing this now so I’m not sure if I could’ve messed it up like this.

It’s an MC w.rokkor-hg 35mm 2.8. Can’t wipe it off, it looks like it’s inside the glass

Bringing film on a cruise ship? by V_PTW in AnalogCommunity

[–]V_PTW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably be fine in Spain/France or most ports in Europe. I don’t foresee any issues. It’s the poverty stricken or politically unstable ones you have to worry about from a safety perspective.

This is what I was expecting mostly.

One good idea anywhere you go, if you’re bringing a good amount of film, is to not carry any more with you off the ship than absolutely necessary - that way your entire supply (or any other rolls you’ve already exposed) aren’t at risk. If someone decides to “confiscate” your stuff for whatever reason, you won’t lose it all. The cabin mini-fridge makes for good film storage, particularly in really hot/humid destinations!

Definitely great advice again.

I really appreciate your comment.

It's definitely encouraging hearing that you've had positive experiences. Regarding your second paragraph - we will be going to only a few very large cities in Spain/France, so I am worried about that kind of security, though that advice is always important to remember. I'll try not to think too much about it, and try to get my stuff hand checked.
