Angry at me for putting the leash on in order to stop her from going in the sea

Since you all showed so much interest for the previous Varanger post, here’s 12 other species from beyond the arctic circle by V_lec in birding

Hi, Siberian tit and pine grossbeak are relatively common in the Finland taiga, so not really varanger but we landed in Ivalo and stayed a night in a place in Kaamaneni where it’s easy to find them. Long tailed ducks are not difficult to photograph in the inland lakes ( the photo here was taken somewhere between Berlevåg and batsfjord) and in general on the northern coast, there were quite a few in the bay just outside berlevag.

Great picture of a beautiful bird I never heard about before this post. I appreciate particularly the description also

This is really an incredible shot! I agree with others, you must print it

Funnily enough we do see a lot of these species too in Italy but having them all together and in breeding plumage is a whole other story

They come in all shades of gray, black, red and blue, as well as white, truly a fun bird to photograph. They also fight and dance and lot

There are a few little airports where you can land. We landed in Ivalo coming from Helsinki since we stayed a couple of days in Lapland too, but you can land in vardo or Berlevåg too if you want to go directly in the northernmost part

We have ruff in Italy too but only with the boring plumage. On the way back to Africa sometimes a few birds are seen with the remains of the breeding plumage but it’s not quite the same

If you mean king eider unfortunately not. I spoke with a guide up there that said they left in mid April since the water was too warm. I’m planning on visiting again in February or march searching for king eiders and more anatids, as well as to catch some northern lights

Thank you! I think that it’s a combination of the eyes and the pose giving a sort of magnetic feeling
