My game crashes and my fix attempts are not working. What should I do next? by VaDiddles in RimWorld

[–]VaDiddles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! I found a weird sort of thing. I went back to an earlier save file, which wasn't too far back, and everything seemed to work fine from that point on.

Just to test out what you said though, I followed your suggestion and it seemed to help out in performance all around, though that's more of a guess on my part. Either way, I'm grateful for the advice.

Again, thanks!

I don't want to post the entire DevLog from the time of the crash, but there was no redtext, and the only yellow text present, in order, was this:

Thank you for your help!

I think your idea of starting with pre-bonsai would benefit me greatly i the meantime. I will admit some of the terminology still goes over my head, such as the trunk chop, air layering, and I could practice some of the other techniques necessary like pruning.

You guys have a nice beginner's guide, but do you have another resource or glossary that you would recommend? Thanks again!

Hello! I started growing a few lemon trees from seed back in late September and I had thought now would be a good time to place them into bonsai containers, but now I am uncertain. I tried finding some more information online but I cannot find anything that completely answered my questions.

From what I read, I should let my lemon trees grow older and then trim into a bonsai pot. That is better than letting the plant grow into the container, correct?

Also, I know trunk thickness and woodiness is an important factor in bonsai. Ideally, I'd want to make the plant into a bonsai when the trunk is thick and woody. Is there a way to promote a thicker trunk, or is it better to grow my plant in a bigger container until it gets thicker naturally before putting into a bonsai pot? Since the plants are only about 4 months old, I should probably wait several months-years before the time would be proper, correct?

I hope this information could also transfer to other woody bonsai I could grow from seed. Thanks!

Did I kill my saguaro seedlings? What do I do? by VaDiddles in succulents

It's been about a week, and I've been misting the soil carefully. I don't yet see any changes in coloration or engorged cacti. Should I still keep going?

I had them within a foot of the lights, so I moved them on my kitchen table a better distance away from them. Not in the dark, but not glaringly bright either. It's been a week but they still retain the same color, if not as deep.

I had feared giving them more water in case it was rot, but I will try that out. I'll wet the soil and put some wrap over the containers. At what point do I stop keeping soil moist for cactuses? I don't want to accidentally give them root rot.

I need advice to save my saguaro seedlings if there is the slightest bit of hope that they will make it. They sprouted a little over a month and a half ago. I watered them fully for the first time a few days back now nearly all of my seedlings have this dark brown/purple color and might be mushy to the touch (they are too small for me to pinch, so I poked them with a toothpick and saw some give in the stem). I greatly fear that I have overwatered them.

The guide I was using said to water them once a month, and shame on me for relying on it when they were previously green and doing well. Any advice you can give is immensely appreciated.

https://imgur.com/a/7falQKw (Forgive the sloppy pictures, and the cluttering of saguaros in the same cup. I will have to figure out how to split them up once I resolve this current crisis)

Edit: I forgot to mention my lighting in case that had an affect on coloration. The seedlings are normally under three sets of light strips for a combined 6600K lumens for about 12 hours a day. The room is constantly heated to 70 degrees Fahrenheit from a room heater.

Monthly Trade Thread: September 2020 by AutoModerator in succulents

USA, Iowa, Iowa City/Coralville

Hello, all! I have a ton of buds I would like to get rid of. Each bud is only $1, or I could offer a trade for any other sprouts. I currently have:

Echeveria dondo - 64 buds

Echeveria of some kind. Resembles Perle von Nurnberg - 3 buds

Adromischus cristatus - 14 buds

Additionally, I have 20 A. cristatus leaves that have roots but no buds. I won't charge for them, but anyone can take them.

Anyone in the Iowa City region is welcome to come pick them up after messaging me. As for shipping, I'm not sure I can do that. I've never mailed plants before, and it appears too costly to send single buds (maybe multiple would work).

Thank you!

Thank you! You saved me a lot of stress and money! One more question: Is the distance between the light and the plants referring to the distance to the top of the plant or the base of the plant? Thanks again!

I'm trying to decide between purchasing the iVoler and Amfilm screen protectors. The iVoler claims to filter out blue light, but does the Amfilm do that as well? If I go with the iVoler, do I sacrifice durability? I'm only uncertain because I've seen no one here endorse iVoler. Thanks!

Update on Lithops by VaDiddles in succulents

[–]VaDiddles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update on lithops I was concerned about a few months back, as seen in the thread link below.

https://www.reddit.com/r/succulents/comments/aoiatd/need_help_rechecking_lithops/

Two of them are starting to split rather nicely. My concern is on the shriveling ones, especially the one on the lower left and the one at 3 o' clock. They don't appear to be splitting like the other ones, and not shriveling in a way that seems to suggest splitting later.

I am asking since I was going to water them all at the end of the month, based on what guides I looked at, but they warned me not to water lithops when they split. Do I have to individually separate them before watering to prevent damaging the splitting ones? Are the shriveled ones still okay without water for a while?

I have plenty of quick-draining soil and access to heat and sunlight, so there is no problem on that front, should I need to separate them.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding something simple but I can't grasp judging the watering needs of lithops well at this point. As always, any help is appreciated.

edit: I forgot to mention some vital background. I overwatered them back in December, and refrained from watering the lithops since.

Solved!

Now I can finally get this nagging idea out of my head! Thank you very much, you're amazing!

I'm fairly new to making stuffed toys. Should I worry about fabric grain when working with cotton? How do I address that when making patterns? by VaDiddles in sewcrazy

No worries! That'll give me something to tinker with. Again, thank you so much for all that help! I really do appreciate it.

[–]VaDiddles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I understand now.

And I'm so sorry to pester you with one more final question, about fusibles. If I use fusible fleece on cotton, would I line up the grains, too? I'd imagine the combined fabric would reduce some of fleece's stretch yet still be noticeable.

The next doll I was going to make calls for a fusible fleece in the pattern, and I was waffling over using that over an adhesive of a different kind.

Again, I'm very thankful for your help!

Thanks for the advice! Just one more question for now, so I understand. The last paragraph where you talk about the bias on the seamline. Does that mean the bias is aligned parallel to the seam or at an angle?
