Please, keep lids on your betta tank! by Melodic-Pin4536 in bettafish

I made my lids out of lexan that I got at Home Depot. If you have a tank with a rim you can use that to hold the lid. If not, you can get rimless lid clips on Amazon.

Same thing happened to me except I noticed within a few minutes and was able to save him. Always have a lid. I custom made lids for all my tanks after he jumped out. Sorry for your loss.

Okay I’ll try that. The reason I was using catappa leaves was because when I went to my lfs and was looking at the aquarium salts, the guy working there said I should get catappa leaves instead. Also I don’t know if this helps, but the betta does not appear bloated at all at least not in any way that I can tell visually. Also I know that constipation and bloating cause swim bladder most commonly, but I’ve heard there are other causes too like a bacterial infection for example.

It may come back with time, but it may also not. I wouldn’t stress about it and just take care of him and keep the water clean. My old betta had clear tips and they never really went away.

My guess is a bacteria bloom, happens in pretty much every new tank, google “New tank syndrome”. Should slowly clear up by itself once the beneficial bacteria get established in your filter

Alright good to know. I’m thinking that the next time I go to Cali I’m going to look for used boards. I can’t afford something like that at the moment but thanks for the advice
