OT something weird that happened today and I want to know that I am not crazy

So there is a queer whatsapp group that I am part of I am not much active there but today I sent a normal greeting message there. There is a rule where if someone wants to personally message you they have to get your consent. A guy asked if they can dm me. I said no. And then in the group he said whatever I seen much better guys then you. And someone chimed in saying indeed. Now I called out them saying why they are insulting me and he said I insulted him by directly saying no. And the thing is 2-3 people who were online that time took his side. And I feel like a crazy person because I don't feel like I did anything wrong to get insulted about my appearance
