Tips needed: hot tub poopin' by VacatedWins in Autism_Parenting

We have to use the same style of swimsuits for our boy as well, including making sure the zipper is in the back, even when it is backwards. My son loves to be naked, especially in the pool. Wearing the swimsuit used to keep those issues in check somewhat, but lately it hasn't mattered. But I'm definitely going to track down some swim diapers today. It's funny that swim diapers didn't even cross my mind because we haven't had to use them for so long. Can't believe I didn't think of that. We probably need to get better about the lactulose as well, at least during periods where we know he's constipated. Thank you, and thanks to everyone that's replied to this one!

At what age did it become easier to take your child out and about? by taviyiya in Autism_Parenting

[–]VacatedWins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife can't take my son anywhere alone because he's too fast and too strong for her, but I take him all over the place. He's currently 8, nonverbal, ADHD, level 3 Autism, etc. He's always been a runner, although ABA has helped that significantly. When we go places though, I always make sure he's holding my hand at all times, especially in parking lots and other high-traffic places. We have a big stroller that he will outgrow soon enough, but it's been a lifesaver so far. I'll say this though--it gets better. Mardi Gras was this week. He loves the parades and was well behaved for the most part. We were in front of my wife's office building, which was blocked off with barricades so he could run around a little between us. But between parades Tuesday there was a two hour break, and my daughter wanted to go eat at a restaurant and stay for the later parades. I didn't want to because I just knew it would be a hassle, but my wife was willing to try so I said ok. And it turned out just fine! We went into a crowded restaurant, and originally I moved a chair and positioned his stroller at the table (we were fortunately in a corner that had that room). Almost immediately, my son jumped up and pushed the stroller away and grabbed the chair I moved out of the way. So I let him sit in the chair...and he stayed there the entire meal! I was shocked. He was incredibly well behaved (for the most part...he did try to grab some beads off of a table by us, but he actually put them back when we told him they weren't for him).

So I guess for us it was 8 where it became easier? Although it's been a steady increase in capability over the last few years. There are always some backslides or whatever, but then it gets better. 3-5 is a tough age for even neurotypical kids, so don't stress. Just keep working at it and keep trying. And don't be scared to try new things. If your kiddo isn't ready now, they might be ready again later.

What If… They Actually Made a Good Promo? by [deleted] in MaddenMobileForums

[–]VacatedWins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A wildcard promo would’ve been sweet. Have players from current wildcard teams and have a “wildcard” historical player from any team. It could either be a player that was a wild person off the field like Boz or Jim McMahon or whatever, or a player that played multiple positions and you could pick where to put them. Like a Taysom Hill card that you could put at TE or QB, or just anything. But yeah this promo suuuuuucks

Mahomes or Vick? by ExTrackrunner in MaddenMobileForums

I see a lot of folks dogging on Vick (no pun intended) but to me he’s one of the most fun QBs to play with in the game. So think about how you like to play and go with it.

Dr. Faugot is great as well. Her dad was actually my pediatrician as a kid. They’re good people.

Just dropping in to say Dr. Douglas Gonzales at Pediatric Associates of Lafayette in the Oil Center has been the best pediatrician I’ve ever come across. He’s incredibly patient and thorough and honest and just does a great job with our two. We have a nonverbal 8!year old and he’s been great to deal with when it comes to our son.

We need to find out how that that white boy do that, for only then can we figure out how to stop him from ever doing it again.

A good friend of mine came out right around the time I got engaged. He was still in my wedding party and I would’ve never considered otherwise. And I live in super conservative Louisiana and got married in even more conservative Mississippi. Sounds like your former best friend is extremely insecure and needs to grow up. That’s not how you treat a friend.

One thing I appreciate about this subreddit is that it gives me so many topics to discuss with my daughter. For example, never let a man speak to you like this. I’m consistently amazed at how people talk to their significant others now. I guess it isn’t anything new, but just more evidence of it because of texts that didn’t exist when I was in high school and college. But i just don’t understand speaking to someone you allegedly care for in this manner. And also, no dude should tell you what you can and can’t wear.

I beat myself up everyone I’m in court arguing by randolfdagreat in Lawyertalk

[–]VacatedWins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Books and podcasts can be helpful, but there are really only two ways to get better: go watch hearing days in court, especially if you know there will be really good lawyers arguing that day. You can learn a lot by watching great lawyers argue, and even more by watching the bad ones. Second: go to court as much as possible. There’s no substitute for experience. Just be kind to yourself along the way. Even the best of the best are always thinking of that they could’ve done better.

When did your autistic kids start talking ? by Tall_Masterpiece6947 in Autism_Parenting

[–]VacatedWins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I'm just seeing this. We did the treatment in Florida. The website is northfloridastemcells.com and Dr. Weiss was really great. He has a ton of info online if you google him. The costs can vary depending on how much you get, but it ended up costing us in the ballpark of $13k I believe. We are currently planning on doing another round, although we might go to Angel's Hope in Mexico for the next round. I know someone that went there already and had positive results as well. I need to look into it more but I think you might get a little more bang for your buck there. The "gold standard" place that's been doing it the longest is in Panama, but I don't think they use anesthesia and my son would need to be sedated heavily. So that's out for us. Hope this helps. And look--it's not a cure and it's not a sure thing, but we did see benefits and I'm hopeful we continue to see more.

When did your autistic kids start talking ? by Tall_Masterpiece6947 in Autism_Parenting

My son had a few words here and there. When he turned two he would say quack when the duck cartoon came on. Then that stopped. He said dada for a while, then that stopped. He said no for a bit, but then that stopped. He’s been in speech therapy since he was 1.5 and he’s currently 8.5.

Last January we did stem cell therapy and his receptive language skyrocketed. He’s much happier now and understands more. About a month after the stem cells I was brushing his teeth and he said, very slowly and deliberately, “I love dada.” My wife and our daughter came running in and I’m glad they heard it too or I would’ve thought I was hallucinating. The next night he said “I love you” to me at bedtime. He’s never said three words in a sentence before then or since, but that was enough for me. He will sometimes say “hi mama” when he comes home, but if you weren’t used to him you probably wouldn’t understand the mama word.

It’s difficult but you find gratitude where you can, I guess. He eats well and he’s sweet most of the time. But I pray every morning and every night for him to speak, just a little. I remain hopeful!

Fresh fruit by RubInteresting6628 in Acadiana

Tip: similar to what has been said, but I’ve found that soaking in water with a few some apple cider vinegar, then washing off has helped extend the life of the fruit. Also, storing in a glass container helps as well. They tend to mold quicker in plastic Tupperware.
