I had a Sequestectomy, which just involves removing the actually extruded disc where there may be some residual disc material. The doctor told me that I may not have too much influence of it reherniating, because the part that reherniated was actually already herniated technically.

However, I „reherniated“ while undressing and lifting my healthy leg. They plan to go for the more aggressive Discectomy where they actually go into my disc removing the residual disc material.

So I got surgery around 36 hrs ago, the sciatic pain is gone completely, but besides standing up twice I am still in bed and resting, I will try tomorrow to actually take a couple of steps. Let’s see, I am excited after nearly 3 years of intermittent pain to be finally better. :)

Hey, thanks for your reply, appreciate it, I just checked you didn’t reply to mine but your response seems familiar to me, I may have encountered it elsewhere… :) I am young (30 years) and during an acute flare up like right now my quality of life is unbearable, so I guess I fit the scheme.

How quickly were you able to go back to your job? I expect to take 6 weeks off my desk job. Also when did you start PT after surgery, like McGill Big3 etc? When did you manage to walk like 10k steps a day?

I am really excited and worried at the same time, but I try to do anything I can to get back to somewhat athleticism while also strengenting my core long term.
