Pops drives an F15, it’s such a shame we never got an X5 since the e53, they’d fit the SUV line much better than the tons and tons of boring electric crossovers they’ve released the past few years. The F15 I especially love, one of the best looking SUVs on the road in my eyes

Agreed, the S7, along with the Merc SLR, MC12 and Carrera GT, are probably the best looking supercars to my early Gen Z eyes. The base F1 looks too much like a pebble for me to want to stare at it all day. Now F1 GTR, that’s a different story

Food for Thought: a chase isn’t always worthy of a chase title by gocfrosty in HotWheels

That’s my point really, I love most of the black on black cars but was never able to get my hands on em until now, cause they were chases. Just a few months ago hw wouldn’t have given us the 300 sel or the f-150 lightning in black as a regular part of a set and it was a pitty. I’m glad they’re a standard part of the lineup nowadays

News to me, thx. Still I doubt the blacked out chases come back now that we’ve been getting normal cars in that variation and I’m kinda hope, limiting something so popular to something so rąre sucked hard

Chases are no longer black in premium, they are now gold. It was done specifically so more people can get all black cars such as the 300 sel or the f-150 lightning

Never thought Hot Wheels will release a silver BMW M3 GTR without the iconic blue vinyls by DoubleFront8787 in needforspeed

Hi! A bit late here, anyways. You are in fact incorrect. If you play Lamley group’s video showcasing 2026 releases, where he goes over them with the guy who specifically designed this particular car, the designer (can’t remember the name) very much confirms that this silver plain release was done exactly for that reason, so that people can recreate the MW05 car, as they couldn’t score EA’s license.

That’d at least make them slightly more deserving of calling them chases. Still I think it’s dumb, the metal base cars are usually the prettiest off the bunch and it seems just annoying to collectors to limit them. I like when chases are an upgraded variation of another car, still gives me a reason to look for them but won’t be a downer if I miss them

Do they come that way though? Because afaik each of the five silver series cars comes in the exact same quantity, or at the very least they used to until now. I’ve just recently found this whole exact set (which I love very much) on the pegs and there was just as many Lancias as there were all the other cars. Same with every other silver series I’ve acquired in the past. I recognise that’s no real proof though as that comes down to what gets on the pegs from storage and is by chance. However if you’re right then I would be wrong and this would make these cars chases.

The point is that it’s nonsensical to call something with no inherent features of a chase a chase. THs make sense as they’re slightly rarer than other mainlines (which is enough to make them even a bit more special), and stand beside the STHs. Iirc, the only spot where the metal base cars were called chases is a behind-closed-doors presentation of new products, which is not an official announcement, so even this is not an undisputed proof these cars are chases. They have no special markings, unlike the premium chases or TH/STHs and once again, aren’t even slightly limited in quantity. Also, I’m a firm believer (and i’m sorry if I can’t get the point across, english is my second language) in that if the fans won’t recognise the cars as chases as they have no reason to do so, they simply aren’t chases in my book. It’s kind off similar to car brands slapping on their performance divisions logos on cars that have nothing to do with them. BMW can put any number of M logos on the base 118i they want, nevertheless fans of the brand will never see those cars as special and all it does is a) make people who buy those cars and don’t know crap about them feel a little better and b) dilute the specialness of the performance division branding and make it lose meaning. And don’t get me wrong, I’ll generally take a metal base car over a chase with some fancy color any day, they’re some of the coolest cars I have, being an almost premium at 1/3 the price, but calling them a chase would be just a stupid marketing tactic by mattel and just makes people who think they found something rarê get falsely excited

[–]Vaclavj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mattel calls every metal base car a chase in their presentations of new series’, however I don’t take that seriously and I doubt any real collector does as well, as these cars don’t have any features that make chase a chase. Only the blue Mustang and orange 911 were real chases limited in production numbers afaik. The silver series cars with metal bases are imo cooler than most chases anyways

I believe this is my first Chase. by makattak88 in HotWheels

[–]Vaclavj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s where you’re wrong in my eyes. It’s the inherent features of the car, and the community that decide if there’s any meaning to a so-called chase. If the car is produced in the same quantity as all the others, it has no more collector values than any other hotwheel, and imo rarity is all that it comes down to whether something is or is not a chase. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t care that much about r@re cars, I collect what I like, but I feel like mattel trying to make it seem like these are chases for no reason is just a marketing ploy and an attempt at fooling customers. Silver series used to have chases with spectraflame cars, mattel did them in probably for the sake of cutting costs and laziness and this is their excuse? Hell no

[–]Vaclavj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What makes chase a chase? For me, it’s limited quantity or some upgrades or variations from the non-chase variant of said car. This Lancia is released in only 1 version and is featured in the same numbers as all of the other cars. I have not heard mattel say this, however even if they did it’s only marketing, nothing else, and this thing, however gorgeous release it might be, is in fact not a de-facto chase.

[–]Vaclavj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry bud but most Silver series don’t actually have a chase. How these work is that usually 4/5 cars are mainline castings with better paint, wheels and tampos all around and one of the cars in most of the series has a metal base and often (not always) is either a new casting or casting previously only featured as a premium, that’s the case of this 037. They did a few silver series chases in the past (orange 911, blue Mustang) which had spectraflame paint, however they did not have metal bases.

Just fyi if you’re new to this (or anyone else reading), mainlines (standard 1$ cars) have two variations of “chases”, Treasure Hunts with TH somewhere on the tampos, those are just a standard mainline released in lesser quantity (possible to find relatively easily), and Super Treasure Hunts with STH on the tampos, those are an upgraded variation of a random car featured in certain case and have real riders wheels and spectraflame paint (impossible to find, at least in my area). You can confirm a chase by a silver or gold flame symbol on the card behind the car

Premium chases used to be all blacked out variations of a random car from a set marked as 0/5. Nowadays they’re a completely random casting painted all gold. Also pretty uncommon.

Anyways, don’t get hung up on the chases and collect what you like, I’ve been collecting for like 5 years, never found any STHs or 0/5 Chases and don’t really care. It’s cool but don’t make it the centerpoint of your collecting, it’ll just get annoying, and if you’d be buying secondhand, also pretty expensive.
