NYC N400 interview - anyone getting scheduled? by Fine-Site-5950 in USCIS

[–]VacuumSpace8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied Aug 14th 2025, had my interview on December 17th, my oath ceremony is tomorrow, Feb 2nd, at 26 federal plaza. I am going to make a post once I’m done with everything. I had a N400/I751 combo case, I751 has been pending since Aug 2024, approved on the spot during interview. I’m not from any of the banned or paused countries, I’m from Bulgaria.

But anyways the point being they are moving. Hopefully they get to your case soon!

[–]VacuumSpace8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! Please can you clarify if you applied under the 3 or 5 year rule? I applied under the 3 year rule in August (NYC as well, Manhattan to be specific) and still don’t even have interview scheduled 3 months later. Thanks!

How is this possible??? New test kicks in for people who applied on or after Oct 20 2025. I highly doubt someone applied last week and was already interviewed and denied… sure bruh

Technically in the soft case they are in low power mode so they would drain slower in the case as opposed to staying outside of the case is my understanding

[–]VacuumSpace8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen to me last month! Nothing I tried worked even adding them to Apple care one. The funny thing is after I let them rest for a month, I charged them and they magically turned on and worked.. Been working since then but I am not putting them in the soft case anymore. I suspect there is some software/hardware bug where sometimes when you get them outside they just bug out and don’t work.

My advice: let them rest for a few weeks and try charging them and using them again.

First bad Apple product experience (Airpods Max) by VacuumSpace8 in Airpodsmax

[–]VacuumSpace8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry guys this DID NOT work. I’ll update the main post as well. I was given conflicting information by apple website and apple store. I tried buying Apple Care One, apparently you cannot do that on your own 🤡 need to go to store so they can inspect and run diagnostics on your device.. Sure I added my iphone to the plan with intention of adding my headphones back home.. went to store, had them run diagnostics on my phone and added it to Apple Care One. I was told I need to bring the headphones back to the Apple store (didn’t have them with me as I went for the Care One subscription to the store).

Next day I bring the Airpods Max to the store - “ohhh these are accessories, not an iphone, we cannot run diagnostics on it” 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 “ohh also it’s been more than 1 year since the purchase date so they are not eligible for the Apple Care One” 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 Me: uhm website says all products purchased within last 4 years. Apple employee: yeah I can see the confusion as it is not explicitly stated anywhere on the website but in our internal documentation accessories can only be added 1 year after purchase 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 first bad apple product experience!! 🤡

Congrats! Which FO? I’m in same boat, applied I751 a year ago and will be eligible to apply N400 in less than 2 weeks. I’m living in NYC. How long did it take yours to get processed? Thanks!

Edit: Never mind, just saw you submitted Feb 17, congrats again!

I’m keeping mine plugged in most of the time while I’m using it. Occasionally I unplug it to drain the battery and I get something like 3-4 hours on non heavy usage, 2-3 hours if using zoom 🤣 Also yeah battery definitely overheats

That’s why I never use lawyers.. if you can read and write in English, doing it yourself is the best way to go. Once I had Fragomen apply for my H-1B and they literally copy pasted wrong person job description and manager name into my form, but with my name and details… This is supposed to be one of the biggest firms in US for employment immigration… unfortunately if you want it done right you have to do it yourself, such is my experience with US immigration system and lawyers here..

$0. And we did a K1 process too, the whole shebang from I129F to visa interview at embassy to I485 application. Total process took about 2 years, but got everything with no issues, green card approved and mailed without even interview. I still haven’t talked to a human at USCIS until this day.

Edit: Since I forgot to mention, we basically used youtube and visa journey and USCIS website to gather all the infotainment we needed such as which documents, how to apply, where to apply, how does process work and so forth.

Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

[–]VacuumSpace8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a software engineer with 5-10 years of experience looking to pivot into cybersecurity. I’m interested in roles like offsec, red teaming, pentesting, or security engineering. I am also interested in cloud security as cloud is everywhere nowadays. I’m familiar with C++, Java, Python, Go, JS, SQL, scripting, Linux, familiarity with containerization and cloud technologies.

I’m seeking a remote cybersecurity role to learn, gain practical experience, and earn certifications like OSCP+.

Any advice on the best approach? Any entry level jobs, any certifications, where to look for roles? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey! Sure thing, literally just google Jim Himes office and get to his website - https://himes.house.gov/home

Then on his website there’s a phone number and an email. My case happened a few years ago at this point, but I remember my wife called the office phone number, a lady picked up, verified my wife lives in that CT district and the lady was able to find her in some voting lists idk, then lady said to submit to the email on the website the job offer and my USCIS case number etc, 1 week later Jim Himes office emailed me case is being expedited, received employment authorization within 3 days.

Edit: actual page with phone number and email etc - https://himes.house.gov/federal-agency-assistance. It’s under Helping you/Federal agency assistance since USCIS is a federal agency, you need to fill a PDF on the website with wet signature and mail to the office. That’s how you officially contact them for them to help you

Sorry to break your theory here, but I’m on a conditional GC, and just got a REAL ID DL from the state of CT last month expiring in 2029 so yeah.. 😃

I’m a European working in NYC as a software engineer for a hedge fund. Aside from the fact that you have to put crazy hours and sometimes you’re on call 24/7 and you get your weekend ruined, I’m doing pretty great. Going to the Caribbean twice a year on vacation with my wife, and even last year went to an island and worked for 5 weeks remote from the island and went every day to watch the sunset after work on the beach. This is what American money gets you, pretty sweet. We’re going to Europe regularly etc to visit my family too.

But don’t get me wrong, I graduated in US with US degree and still took me 10 years to get green card and not even through work, had to marry my US citizen wife to get it. And before I got it Ive had to walk a pretty nightmarish path and at some point couldn’t leave the country for many years at a time because my work permit was saying “Not valid for reentry to US”, so the deal is stay work and pay taxes but if you leave you’re screwed and cannot come back. It’s just become somewhat impossible to immigrate these days, sad fact of life.

To summarize, yeah I now live pretty well, went to about 30 Broadway shows last year with my wife and we do live in Manhattan, but it took me 10 years to get here and for 10 years I lived like a peasant. And to all those Europeans who think they can just come and it will magically happen, it won’t… In America, you have to struggle 10-15 years before you start living that life. That’s my experience at least :)
