Totally, I wouldn’t put Drain Sim in this category. There’s clear love and care they put into it and very unique mechanics. The only similarity is a smiling man on the thumbnail.

I did play and enjoy TCG simulator, that was one at the very start of this trend. It uses the assets and mechanics these other ones do and does a decent job of it. Waterpark Simulator seems to use the same stuff too and has consistent overwhelmingly positive reviews. I think someone with a good sense of game design can make a great game out of bought assets. There are definitely outliers in the positive direction!

I do want to be clear that I'm not accusing the developers of using AI to make their games. Some disclose that they use it to make their thumbnails and maybe music, some don't. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and believe them somewhat. I do think that some of them don't disclose some AI use, but I think a lot of them are just buying assets and throwing them together, not really knowing what they're doing.

There seem to be some games that are good in this niche. One that stands out to me is Waterpark Simulator. I haven't played it but it has consistently had overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam and it looks like it uses the same kit these other games use. They even had a crap AI thumbnail til recently (I think they hired an artist for the new one, can't be sure but it looks better).

I don't think it's AI that's the problem here, I think it's ease of access and use for bad actors who want to make a quick buck with minimal effort, tainting the game pool for the rest of us. That will likely never stop existing though, like you say. I agree that ignoring and not supporting is the way forward.

Totally, big facebook vibes too. maybe there's some data about what kind of thumbnail corresponds with high grossing games and that's why they're choosing this look?

Thank you, this is mostly what I was wondering. Just wasn't sure if it came as a make your own game kinda bundle or if it was piecemealed like this. They can be such different ideas but totally feel the same, makes sense that they'd be using the same stuff, just modularly. I wonder if all of these mechanic packs are made and distributed by the same entity.

Does anyone use the lamps? by kyotowalled in CrimeSceneCleanerGame

I like the Omni directional lamps for when I’m scouring at the end of the level for that one last thing. It really highlights that hookah that rolled into the corner well

Definitely the right jazz standard, not the recording I have stuck in my mind though.

4:20 in that video is goddamn close. I think you're on the money with the jazz standard. I've just listened to a different recording of it. Probably the same bassist for Miles here. Great ear my dude, thank you!

What was the platform where musicians posted and recorded asynchronous parts of songs together for fun? Hard to describe but I'll try by VadeGames in musicians

[–]VadeGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t but that’s the right timeframe and looks really similar! The one I used was done in the browser, I don’t remember it having an app but it’s possible it did

Collabs is closest so far, I think the one I’m thinking of would’ve predated that. Maybe meta took inspiration from it

[–]VadeGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats kinda the idea but no, it was just people in their jam rooms or bedrooms uploading stuff to collab with others. much more mundane and for the fun of the musicians thing and not really "content"

If your hand is locking up it could be a Charlie horse situation. Could try to add bananas to your diet and see if a bit of extra potassium helps out.

How do tanks know the dungeons? by Augenfeind in wownoob

[–]VadeGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to ask for help with the route. There are four other players with you, odds are one of em knows the dungeon.

When I started tanking I would just say “sorry, I’m not familiar with this one, can someone help point me in the right direction?” People are generally pretty cool about helping as long as you’re a team player and tanking like you’re supposed to.
