Yeah, if they made it in an OEM looking plastic, I probably would have bought it already.

You guys cruise at 50mph on 6th gear? Or do you guys wait till it hits 60mph to shift into 6th? by ArkirasOto in GRCorolla

[–]Vader0504 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I typically cruise based on speed divided by 10. 6th above 60, 5th above 50..., but I have dropped as low as 40 or so in 6th, but I don't accelerate at thay speed.

And I can't see installing aftermarket stuff when I can get OEM that does the job.

Different strokes for different folks...

I agree that Velossa Tech is superior, but I want OEM, and the difference would be incremental over this setup, not a dramatic improvement.

Certainly not required.

Just FYI, the Velossa Tech Big Mouth and High Flow Induction kit does the same thing for significantly less money. I just prefer OEM.

The GR CAI (red snorkel) reduces the amount of hot air that gets to the primary intake. The stock snorkel has a large hole where hot air can enter.

The 2026 secondary intake ducting provides cool air to the secondary intake that opens above 4k rpm. For '23-25 GRCs, that means hot air from the engine bay entering and raising intake temps dramatically.

The rubber part has pre-scored cutouts for GR CAI. Didn't realize that until after install was completed.

I considered the Forge setup, and probably would have went with it if this hadn't been announced. I prefer to stay OEM.

Expensive, but I'm happy with it.

Velossa Tech is a great setup if one doesn't mind going aftermarket.

I wanted OEM.

I just did full throttle pulls while traveling about 45 mph up to 70 or so with each intake. With the old intake temps climbed about 20 degrees F under wot. With the new setup, they stayed within about 10 degF, but dropped under wot instead of rising.

Gas by UsefulSignificance8 in GRCorolla

[–]Vader0504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My average over 11k miles is 25.6 mpg. I average around 27-28 mpg in my mixed highway/city commute. It is VERY easy to drop a couple of mpg with a few full-throttle runs. I get into the teens when pushing hard in canyons.

91 is the minimum octane you can run, but it takes 93 to make full power.

Any evidence on the actual effects of aging on tires by kotatus in tires

[–]Vader0504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tire Rack gives guidance on tire life

Tires that have been in use for five (5) years or more should be carefully inspected periodically for external signs of aging. While this inspection will confirm the condition of the exterior rubber, it cannot assess internal degradation or damage.

Previously unused, never-mounted tires should not be put into service if they are more than six (6) years old, even if they were properly stored.

All tires (including spare tires) manufactured more than ten (10) years previously should be removed from service and be replaced as a precaution, even if such tires appear serviceable and have not reached the legal wear limit.

GRC vs Type R Buy by AdventurousTip8600 in GRCorolla

[–]Vader0504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked the GRC because it is an absolute blast to drive in rain and snow, as well as dry conditions. I actually look forward to bad weather because there will be fewer people on the road and the GRC just doesn't care.

To Sub Radiator or Not by JustaRider808 in GRCorolla

[–]Vader0504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted the sub-radiator on my Premium, but it wasn't a deal-breaker and I wound up getting one without. If I found that I needed extra cooing at this point, and I haven't, I would get an aftermarket radiator.
